[SPOILER]I've beent o the hidden monastery of the secret order and go the books. I was on my way (on foot) from Vivec to the Ashlanders and stopped at Balmora to make some potions. My alchemy tools are gone!! It looks like Casius's house has been cleared out. Is this a bug or a scripted event? That stuff was worth a lot. [/SPOILER]

Well, I can only think of two things off the top of my head that it could be, and neither of them are "bugs" per se...
First, if you store a lot of stuff at Cauis', my understanding (and I say this because it's never happened to me personally, but it's happened to loads of other people) is that at some point the game stops drawing every item you may have strewn around, and instead takes it upon itself to put it in an "overflow loot bag"... look around to see if there are any suspicious bags laying about, and if so, if your stuff is in there.
Second, if you had been storing your stuff inside a chest or a cabinet or basically inside *anything* that had stuff in it before (as in Caius had stuff in there, and you just added your stuff to it), evidently at some point those things will respawn their original contents.. and wipe out whatever was in there at that moment.
Those are the only two possibilities I personally can think of... if it's neither one of those, then it does indeed sound bug related, although maybe someone else has some ideas...
