If you could only have one home, where would you choose to live? I think I'd pick Cheydinhal. Pretty town, pretty scenery, and not too far from the Imperial City.
Runner-up would be Bravil. It's a bit more rustic, but it's on Niben Bay which is nice.

do self built houses also apply? I'd live in my little underground refuge at the base of a tree on a hill close to the Imperial City.
I would go for Bruma though if it were one of the towns. wearing think clothes in any other part of the land might seem a bit too much. it would probably be too hot.

I like the burned out house on an island south of Bravil.
It is free and has room for a bedroll and campfire.
2 of the 3 containers are safe for long term storage.

I'd put a house on (
http://img146.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hillsidenq5.jpg) this hillside outside of Cheydinhal. Great views north, south and west, a nearby paved road to the east gate, just a short stroll to the nearest wayshrine and Harlun's Watch.
If we're limited to existing houses, I'd move into
Glarthir's place after his unfortunate encounter with the Skingrad watch. If we can only choose the buyable homes, then I'd pick Benirus Manor in Anvil.

In-game, Benirus Manor because my current character is a sinister bugger.
If Oblivion was real and I was living in it, I would choose Cheydinhal because it is as far away from Kvatch as possible and is relatively free from dodgy dealings (apart from the DB, but they are cheerful in their own way.

If I could, I'd want to have a boat off the coast of Anvil. Benirus Major is great but it's far too small for my liking.

I'd live in that beached ship that's on the point of land near Anvil. No-one to bother me and my studies into the arcane.
I'd probably need to move to an Ayelid ruin or something for more bodies to work with though.

No where but Bruma, looking out over the snowy peaks...

Anvil countryside, no doubt about it. Golden fields on one side, an infinite sea on the other.

I didn't want to be a Dark Brotherhood assassin. I wanted to be a lumberjack. Leaping from tree to tree as they float down the mighty rivers of the Nibenay Basin...
