I don't like purchased downloads, I like to have a physical disc that contains the game data.
By the way, I bought DX1 on eBay last month, the 'game of the year' edition. I'm almost done with my 2nd runthrough. It is an incredible game, to put it mildly.

Some of you people think im talking hooey.
I am not talking about the demo. As a poster pointed out a couple of posts above, Im talking about CGW distributing the full Deus Ex game along with the full version of Thief 2 in their magazine years back (T2 did work BTW). Not a demo. Full game.
Im surprised that most people here did not realize that.
Edit: Please realize, I have no intentions whatsoever to pirate this game, so please quit it with the pre-judging. I just wanted to check first that since these two games were distributed as mentioned above that maybe they are posted somewhere for DL for free and that id try to get it that way before buying a copy on Ebay.

You can always send off for a back issue.

Well, since you legally came into ownership of the game, couldn't you just get a cd crack so you don't need the disk? Or did you do something stupid and uninstall a classic game to do something like free up space for a term paper?:nono:

Those games would have been specially licensed to be distributed only by the magazine, sort of a tit-for-tat bargain ... companies get exposure, magazine gets sales.
As a legal matter, that license wouldn't cover a re-distribution through another channel, e.g., a site where you could download even the same files they just gave away for "free" ... It's standard practice that such a license would quite specifically reserve the owner's rights as to re-distribution to prevent just that from happening.
According to the license, a buyer of those magazine-distributed CDs can only re-distribute it in the same way an original purchaser could ... they can sell or even give away the actual CD, but not put the files up to be downloaded, not without a separate license.
It was a good idea you had, but it doesn't help you much in the end unfortunately.

There's a biiiiiiiig difference between an item being offered as a bonus with the purchase of another, and an item being offered completely for free.

it's just $10 on steam, and it shouldn't take more than a few minutes to download. Beats buying it online and having to wait to get it, but maybe you're one of those steam haters I see everywhere, if so booo on you!

I remember that magazine version and it was a full game, Game of the Year edition to be exact. It also had full version of another game.
