HATE those things; we call them webworms and the damage they do is unbelievable. I must spend a fortune on insecticide because they're always trying to set up residence in my apple, pear, and boxelder trees. Which upsets most hated pest #2: boxelder bugs. They're really harmless but they invade in droves and get everywhere and stink when you squash 'em. (My cats won't even touch them.)
