As much as I truely enjoy taking fall damage, when attempting to walk down a mountain side it's a stupid pain in the ass to randomly walk off the ground because my acrobatics is high enough and sail through the air for a little while, then scream out in agony when I hit the ground and lose half my life. Even worse when this happens in the middle of battle against a spriggan, mountain lion, and the spriggan's summoned bear.
In morrowind a const. effect slowfall of 2! would prevent all fall damage, making certain parts of the game much more bearable (like not having to heal most of my life every fourth step), but for whatever reason, Bethesda was possessed with the idea to not include slowfall in oblivion. WHAT THE FUCK?!?! Why would they do this? Is it that hard?
Please someone out there who's much more observant than I am, please tell me I'm missing something and that there's actually a slowfall spell and it's under a different name and I've just missed it. I need to have it! Annoyingly enough boosting acrobatics doesn't help either because it just means you're more likely to take off with greater distance and hence fall further, so an actual spell to reduce the speed of falling would be a goddamn godsend.

You're missing something.
The uproar of the nerdy armchair developers who were crying about no slowfall for a long, long time before Oblivion came out.
The solution? Take the fall damage like a man.

Keep a few good healing potions with you if you tend to fight on mountains. Heck, just keep a few good healing potions with you everywhere. That indiana jones-esque moment in
the mythic dawn cave
took a lot of health out of me. Probably was a bad idea to rush straight in, sword swinging...

For real? Cool if so. Could you quickly drink it just before you hit the ground to avoid fall damage? That could put some twitch-reflex action into the act. :D
Cheers,
