I miss the old Cold War days but only for the great spy thriller books and movies, and of course the comedies like Spies Like Us.

How is life in Russia since the Ukraine war started? I don´t want to judge or blame anyone for the war, I am just interested and would be glad if you reply.

You know, life was never easy in Russia.
We work to survive, winters for half a year, soaring rent, bills to pay. And also have to be very, very careful when talking to someone outside or when writing comments on the web, just in case.
We always need to think twice before saying something out loud, at least in big cities. But it's ok we are kinda used to that.
Most of my friends escaped from Russia, because they don't want to die in the Putin's war.
I can't do the same because I have older parents to look after. But if the Russian army will try to force me to go to kill Ukranians I will do my best to hide, of course. I have absolutely no intention of killing innocent people from another country. We are the aggressors in the war, not Ukranians. I have a feeling that most Russians understand that and feel guilty deep in their heart, despite all the propaganda and pro-Putin fanatics being louder than ever.
Even those who support our "beloved" dictator most often just wish for this crazy war to end.
Fun fact: the words I wrote here in reply to you - if I did the same on Russian social media, I would have probably had to pay a huge fine or even go to jail for like 5-7 years (for descriminating against Russian Armed Forces).

Thank you for your reply.
You truly have a big, good heart for caring about your elder parents.
Please take care of yourself.
