Citizens of a country founded by foreigners upon the blood of millions of natives, bitching about illegal immigrants using their public services... I think my irony detector has gone into meltdown.

Well there must be a reason why they don't legalize and if your society supports a continuingly illegal immigrant population then I think you should look to yourselves for whom to plant blame upon so forth.
...
THEY WOULDN'T BE THERE IF ELEMENTS IN YOUR SOCIETY DIDN'T SUPPORT IT.
The thing about illegal immigrants is that they are a bit like having slave labour for employers. They work for very little money and therefore are good for businesses who utilise them (especially when competing 1st world countries who don't have "slave" labour). Not so good for other lower skilled legal workers who have to compete against them for jobs of course. So yes the corporate sector of the Republican party is all for them but the grassroots of the Republican party is against them. BTW Bush is for them.

But I have to agree that if they want to work here, they need to be subject to the same laws as the rest of us.
They are subject to the same laws as the rest of us. That's why their current status is
illegal.

That's overstating the issue a bit. This cultural paradox has been around since the colonies. It's American tradition to bitch about the ethnicity du jour taking over our economy and sleeping with our wimmins.
Anyway I don't have much more to add other than the national solidarity shown by these rallies is pretty awesome to behold. Without putting a whole lot of thought into it I support their cause. This country needs open immigration policies. Also I got to go home early to beat the traffic.
My understanding is there's a real economic benefit to the reliance on illegal labor. Of course there's an ethical and social cost as well and the liberal side of me thinks that obviously trumps the economic argument but the rest of me isn't quite so sure that an amnesty program or more open immigration policies will actually fix the problem and/or avoid massive ripple effects through the economy, specifically regarding critical goods like produce and other foodstuffs.

I meant that they should follow the
legal procedures to become a naturalized citizen.

Yay, its like having a union except they can have one!
Maybe the rest of the working population can learn from it.

For example, California pays over 26 Billion, that's BILLION people, a year to provide medical care for the illegals, of whatever ilk. True some of them pay taxes to the tune of 16 Billion a year. That still makes every citizen (not resident, CITIZEN) pay a bit of the extra 10 Billion for caring for illegals. Even if that same citizen cannot pay for his or her own medical care.
Send them back. There are a lot of people who can and will do the same work.
26 Billion people?! Am I missing something here...I thought there were only 6 and half billion people in the world...nice one Einstein. :laff: Anyway...we have pretty much the same arguments over here. Papers like the Daily Mail massively exaggerating the problems of illegal immigrants behind a thinly disguised racist agenda.
Massive drain on taxpayers money, stealing all our jobs, soaring crime rates and massive rises in tuberculosis and cholera and ebola all due to immigration. Not to mention a lot of them are muslim al-queda terorists or sympathisers as well.

Is that easy to do? Surely if they could just say 'hey, gief citizenship plx' and become American very few would bother being illegal immigrants in the first place?
