I live in Florida (quite a ways north of homestead) and havn't noticed anything at all, and there are a LOT of immigrants here. I agree with Fett, and I really disagree with immigrants who want to change this country but arn't willing to to become legalized. Oh I know it's a pain in the ass, I have freinds who have and who resent illegals who have been getting away in this country. Again though, I don't know the economic impact, i do assume it would be for the better, however, to force them to become legal.

Well there must be a reason why they don't legalize and if your society supports a continuingly illegal immigrant population then I think you should look to yourselves for whom to plant blame upon so forth.

A large part of the problem is minimum wage. If it didn't exist (as it shouldn't), then that would remove the incentive to take illegal jobs, because those jobs would now be legal. If there are people who want to work for $3/hr, they should be allowed to. It's simple market economics. And all the haters who say no one can live on minimum wage, much less half of minimum wage, tell me how all the illegals are doing it? Because they ARE doing it. They just don't feel like they have to all have their own nice separate apartments, cars, big TVs, etc. Instead, they'll live together with a couple families, sharing the bills and stuff.
Why are they here? Because it's better than freakin Honduras or Mexico. But our minimum wage laws force them to take illegal jobs, because they aren't qualified enough to be worth even minimum wage. But if those low pay jobs were fine and legal, then they would be MUCH better off. They could have an official work history, start building up a resume. After a couple years they can learn the language better and start getting better jobs. It's life, it's how the world works. We're shooting them in the foot with minimum wage. It's not nice.
I'm not saying it's the only problem or cause. I'm sure there are a lot of other areas of improvement. For instance, while I don't know the process for becoming a citizen, I'm sure that, being a government thing, it's unneccesarily long and complicated. So the government should outsource the whole immigration office to private companies who would handle it much smoother and nicer, since they would have an incentive to do the job right and efficiently.

Because it wouldn't increase resentment just a tiny little bit if suddenly a lot of illegals became legals and were not only undercutting good white folk but also taking their legal jobs whilst doing it, because as you say they have been living on less than minimum and are used to it, whereas the old white man would suddenly take a pay cut because there are several Senor Legalos (Legolas?) who will take his legal job for less.
I can't see it solving much short time, however, long term, I'm sure it would allow the rich to prosper further at the expense of the poor. :thumb:
Oh anyway, I've no real idea what the situation is in the USA, I'm just wildly conjecturing.
