I haven't had much luck at selling things for prices that are higher than I bought them (trading) and I certainly am NOT being compensated for my troubles when it comes to doing quests for my character's Guild (Mage).
So my question is, where does the money start rolling in? I'm barely scraping by. I walk as much as I can (though sometimes the occasionally cliff bird comes by and starts pecking me -- argh), but sometimes fast transport is a requirement, and even though it's supposedly a "small fee", it's anything but for my character!
I know it's early on in the game, but does anyone have tips for getting some income? I've dropped only a couple of side quests. One of them DID offer money, but I was too swamped as it was (and that really ticks me off that you get too swamped and you have to refuse some). All of the other quests I've done are seemingly for nothing but good will. Stee-range!
Tips anyone? :)

Most money you'll get will come from looting stuff and selling it to vendors, not people giving it to you from quests.
Pretty soon you'll be pretty rich, and prices for transportation will be less then noticable.
If you want some tips: Steal, and don't get caught =)

If your strong enough (you don't need to be very strong), go to daedric shrines and kill the guys in there. They usually drop all kinds of good stuff, In the shrine by ald velothi, I got almost a full suit of ebony! :D, You'll usually be able to find at least one deadric weapon, some scrolls and potions, and books that up stats.
I started raiding shrines at about lvl 6 (the monsters seem incredibly easy in this game...), if you have high enough soul gems, you can capture the souls of the creatures like the atronachs and daedras. The soul gems, once enchanted, are also worth alot.

When Ajiira(person who gives you your first tasks for mage guild) tells you to put the fake gem upstairs in the desk, just swipe the item(s) on the desk worth 60k+. Might hurt you later in game but I dont know yet.
level 1 character can do this before even raising 1 skill.

Money doesnt seem to be that big an issue to get by with. The vendors have limited coins, but if you drain there money, they will replenish the next "game" day. If one were to have huge amounts of money they could simply go from trainer to trainer advancing skills and leveling while never leaving the towns, and where is the fun in that? I don't worry about money as long as I have enough for transportation and potions. If a vendor has an item I really want it isnt hard to hunt, loot, steal to eventually get money enough to buy it.
All the money in the game will not buy you the "special" quest rewards that can only be achieved by completing the countless duties. I get more pleasure out of items I am rewarded with, over buying from a merchant, and they are often much better. Like the duty that rewards the boots of blinding speed which is simple to complete, and adds 200 points to your speed, but has a somewhat humorous disadvantage to them.
If your that hard up for money though, you can always do like a friend of mine and use the editor to create a simple shack with a chest containing the gold you need in it and import it into the game.

The best way I have been able to make money is from selling magical glass weapons. I might just be getting lucky finding them, but I have prolly found around 15. Also, has anyone been able to find Deadric bracers/gauntlets, thats the only peices I have left. I don't want to know where they are, just want to make sure they can be found :p

I've found full daedric armor including gauntlets

I've made some decent money doing jobs for the Fighters' Guild. Some of the jobs are pretty easy, and could probably be handled by a mage type without too much trouble.

Morag Tong assassination writs go for 500-1000 drakes per kill. Not bad for a day's work and if your skills are decent, they are often quite easy. I also like that you can pick up writs and payment in any town with a Morag branch.
And it's true: nothing you can buy is as good as what you find out there in the field.

Another vote for "out in the field". I entered my first "dungeon" last night (the first Blades quest), and the amount of loot was startling. I had 6 skill increases in 20 minutes for my Level 3 mage, mostly coming from several close but manageable fights.
I was very thankful that I had just received a 100 point Feather blessing...sheesh that loot is heavy!
Anyway, I now plan to spend lots of time in tombs, ruins, and the like! :cheeky:
