Wait a minute,
Adobe Reader is trying to open your RAR file? Sounds to me like you don't have a program that can unpack RAR files. Go download Winzip, UltimateZip (free), or 7Zip (also free). Then you can access the RAR file.
But it's a moot point because downloading and using SS Portable is much easier and faster, try that first. I also have an original copy of System Shock but the CD hasn't
ever been in my drive because I also use SS Portable.
Harvester, you made my day. I was able to successfully download ss1 portable v.0.9. Sound is great, colors great, but no picture - yet. Am working on it and hope to have it resolved by tomorrow, Wednesday. Thank you very much. I owe you one. pukey

I did catbarf and now all I need is a picture. Sound, color, etc., just great but no picture. I'm confident it will be fixed by tomorrow, Wednesday. Thanks. pukey
Wait, what do you mean by no picture?

Exactly that catbarf; there was no picture, nothing but "black" but sound, colors flickering around the edges, etc.. When Shodan finished speaking, the "black" picture reverted to where I started, the Shock folder.
I am pleased to advise that the game is now fully functioning, sound, color, picture and all. There might still be a bug here and there, but in working with Strangebedfellows.de, the German web page, where System Shock Portable v.09 can be found, and the troubleshooting section, the entire process makes installing extremely easy. Thanks for your interest. All the best. pukey

Hooray, today all is well. The picture, sound, colors, the whole nine yards are now in place and game playable. Brings back pleasant memories. I played this game when it first came out in 1994-95 when it was on floppy disk(s). All the best. pukey

Ah, I see. My school computers did that with DgVesa. I just ran it in Mouse2kV, and it works perfectly.

Thanks for the tip catbarf: I'll see if I can use Mouse2kV. I think it's not on Portable but involved with the detailed instructions from XenivouS. pukey

Just checked and Mouse2kV is available on Portable v.09. I'll check into it as soon as I get back. Thanks again. pukey
