I dunno if it's been mentioned before, but the "lean/turn/jump" exploit from Thief that hurls you across the map also works in SS2. I found this out the hard way last night when an encounter with a pipe-hybrid ended up accidentally flinging me across Cargo Bay 1 with lethal force. Gotta love those bugs...

I've never encountered this before, will you fly through walls and other obstacles?
PeeperStorm on 24/6/2007 at 16:46
No. Basically you get hurled across the map and take impact (falling) damage from whatever you hit. In my case, I died from hitting a wall.
In Thief (same game engine) we referrred to this as "NPC jumping". It's a lot harder to duplicate in SS2 because of the lack of non-hostile NPCs. The only place I can think of where you might practice this easily is in the training area of the recruitment center where there's a non-hostile robot that you're supposed to shoot.

I think a midwife has done this to me a few times, now that I think about it. I move around her to avoid getting hit, but suddenly I start flying, like some immense force kicked me in the nuts, and I take massive damage/die when hitting a wall.

Just tried it in the weapon training booth and had some nice jumps. Just lean into the robot and then turn around. Cool find! :thumb:
I'll have to remember this for the next MP game...

Yeah, a Midwife has done it to me, as well. I've posted it before; a while ago. I didn't know it was called NPC jumping, though.

You don't think MP games have enough bizarre problems that we
don't understand? You of all people should know better ;)

I still maintain I was trying to help back then... but okay, next time you need a shoulder to lean in, don't ask me!
