I'm currently replaying Fallout 2 and was having lots of fun, until.. my character all of a sudden started walking instead of running  anyone had this happen to them?

ohh i took a look at my character and it appears that he has a crippled leg. so what do i do now? don't tell me that i have to visit a doc. the only doc that comes to my mind is in Vault 13 and that would mean crossing all the geckin map :erg:

Find a first aid box or doctor's bag and try using the Doctor skill. I think a doctor NPC will heal it too. I haven't played in ages, but I'm certain there's one in Vault City too.

You can also heal crippled limbs by resting and healing naturally, but it takes a long, LONG time to do it that way. You can use Doctor skill (with or without the Doctor Bag). Just keep trying to use it until you get the "you're too tired" message, then rest for a day and try again. Repeat until you either heal the limb or it heals naturally by itself. First aid skill does not help with crippled limbs, so don't bother with a First Aid kit.
You can find doctors in several of the towns. And there's always Hakunin back in Arroyo...

There's doctors in most major settlements - Arroyo, Redding, Vault City has two, Lenny in Gecko has the doctor skill, NCR and San Francisco. Not sure about Broken Hills, but I don't recall anywhere else having doctors. Or as Peeperstorm said, just spam the doctor skill no matter how unqualified you may be.

thanks for advice guys. there really was a doc near where i was at that moment, in Vault City. i had Lenny with me and i knew that he's a healer, but there wasn't a healing option in dialogue with him. interesting that the first doc i visited in Vault City ripped me off for 200 and didn't heal me because his equipment was broken, but the second one in Vault itself, whom i delivered jet earlier, healed me for free, i guess because i did that small errand for him or because i was a citizen.

If you want Lenny to heal you, just use the Doctor skill on yourself. As long as his skill is higher than yours, the game will automatically have him try to heal you instead of having you do it.
Many of the companions' non-combat skills work that way. The game will automatically substitute their skill for yours if they're higher. For example, if you haven't been putting points into Barter skill, you'll find that all of the merchant prices become better for some mysterious reason once you have an NPC with you. I once spent a few hours comparing the price benefits of having various NPCs, and it turned out that Cassidy has better Barter skill than Vic, even though Vic is a trader.
It's pretty subtle, because there's nothing in the game to let you know directly that this is happening.

yes, very subtle. i didn't figure out how to get in to the Military Base. i read walkthroughs and know what to do, but just don't know how, and didn't bother to try for more than a couple of minutes. classic quests and pixel hunting is not my thing.
i am now fighting the final boss Frank Horrigan and he is the toughest boss in my gaming career. the turrets are absolutely pointless as the do no damage to him. the Enclave soldiers do some damage, but some doesn't do as horrigans health is 999. as for my character, it looks like the best weapon choice is rocket launcher but horrigan just has too many action points and my character on the other hand too few. i don't know how i managed to kill him when i was playing this game for the first time some 8 years ago.

I'm a big fan of aiming for the eyes with Frank.
As far as getting into the Military Base: There's a pole laying there. Put it on the mine cart. Put one dynamite on the pole. Push the cart. Boom.

i got lucky yesterday fighting Frank Horrigan, his leg got crippled and so he couldnt move as much anymore and became an easy target practice :D

Boom.yes, i read that in a walkthrough, but the part that i havent figured out yet is how to put dynamite on the pole. i mean when i use dynamite the game doesnt offer me where to put it and my character always puts it on the ground. i are tarded much? :joke:
