That's a waste. If you dump all your upgrades into the pistol, you end up with basically a sniper pistol that has a heck of a lot more ammo available.
Eh, not completely. The sniper rifle has the advantage of not only extra long range (as many have already mentioned) but it destroys most doors and turrets with Master rifle skills. It's the world's fastest lockpick.
EDIT: You can't silence a pistol either.

For human enemies, I use the baton with a master low-tech skill. I even use it for the MIBs & WIBs, but I find that I have to turn on the Combat Strength aug to get a knockout. If I don't need to sneak, I'll use tranq darts or the DTS. The DTS with Combat Strength is also useful for taking out any active security cameras within reach.
For mini-spiderbots, I'll use the stealth pistol on nearby explosive barrels. If there aren't any explosive barrels handy, then I'll use an EMP grenade or HE ammo from the AR. For larger bots that I can't shutdown with a security panel, I'll either sneak by or have fun with the LAW or GEP gun. I haven't encountered any large spiderbots yet, but I'm at the MJ12 Subbase now, so I know they're coming.

On non-lethal takedowns: The only difference is being scolded early on by Paul, really.
Non-lethal takedowns are the only way to get stuff off MiBs. Some have nano keys or weapon mods that you can't get if you kill them.

My favourite way of playing is probably with the pistols, though there's a lot to be said for the Dragon's Tooth and Speed :)

Anyone tried long-range sonar vision + run silent? That seems like a great combo for stealth.
Anyone notice how aggressive defense works on plasma rounds? :weird: It's kinda weird, but I suppose it gives the aug more mileage.

Crossbow with tranq darts + prod +baton + dragon tooth sword + LAMs + the gep gun as a "universal lockpick" and bot killer. If the gep gun is too much to carry then the AR with 20mm ammo is good replacement, better in some ways.

Funny, I have a tendency to drop the DTS almost as soon as I acquire it. :erg:

Regardless of playstyle I almost always have a stealth pistol with scope, a prod and a Baton/DT.
I've tried playing all out action but I can't help but fall back to the stealth approach. It just seems to make sense to avoid alot of stuff when you can just hack something e.g. disabling robots/turrets or messing with their IFF.

Who cares about silencing when you're shooting at someone too far away to hear you?

You know the most useful thing about it? It can smash open crates in one go. It's kind of tedious to hack away at a crate repeatedly to get it open, as you must with the baton or knife.
