i have red the books he has written i then saw him down in the crypt(1st level) and he turned from human to chicken constanly but wouldnt talk he would only make chicken noises . how do i change him back?

Only if you have your game patched to 1.17, you can make him become human doing some sort of cooking recipe, warning big spoiler.

Remember to read the patch readme before even attempt to patch, as your savegames might be useless.
