Some good points.I use mousewheel to change weapons and mousewheel click down to reload. What do you use instead of r-click for secondary fire, though? I began FPSing with Unreal, essentially, so this was fast and essential.

In games like UT or CS, I use mouse3 (mouse wheel click) or space. Since I don't use the silencers or scopes very often in CS (except when playing stealthy near end of a round), I use mouse3. I use secondary fire in UT a lot more often, so I made it space. I find that having my fire button and my secondary fire button too close together (mouse3) causes me problems, since I'm trained to use my index finger for mouse1, and my middle finger to do mouse2, mouse_wheel, and mouse3. This makes jumping + alt/secondary fire harder for me. Habit from the old two button mouse days. I find that combined actions (for example; jump + duck) is easier if I place the action keys on different hands. So, if I have crouch/duck bound to SHIFT, and jump bound to mouse2, I can accomplish a jump + duck a lot better.
In DX, Space is my "use" key, and mouse3 is my ToggleScope/TargetingAug/RecircAug key. This means that even if something doesn't have a scope, the binoculars (hehe) for example, I can still activate the Targeting aug for use with that item. But, if the item does have a scope, I get the benefit of the scope plus the Targeting aug. Kinda fits my playing style.

I'm going to assume that this thread is going to controls of DX. In my DX I use the Mouse3 (mouse wheel button) For crouch. Of course i have toggle crouch on. And right click is put weapon away/use. Everything else is the same from the brackets doing scope/laser dot to the switch ammo as ' i think... Eh haven't played in a while. Once you beat it on realistic with NO deaths. Nope none! Excepts the robots. But those don't count. I even KOed Simons, Gunther, and Anna. Man, I can't wait for DX 2...

Skilless: In games like DX,Outcast, etc. I leave mouse2 at default if there's no secondary fire (e.g. "use"). Movement is grey arrow keys (left main fingers) with crouch, jump, prone, TFC grenades being \,ctrl and / , k and l with little fingers of left hand, since I'm a piano and bass guitar player. Shift is often sprint or other lifesaving action as needed.
Works a charm as I tickle my opponents like ivories (too bad I'm old, slow and can't aim! :cheeky: ).

<-- old man too. 8)
WASD for movement, Q, E, R, T, F, G, Z, X, C, V, Shift, Ctrl, Capslock, TAB, Space, 1-5 all available with little or no movement of hand position. I used to play with arrow keys, but I found cocking my left wrist to play on the right side of the keyboard a little hindering. Since I moved to WASD, I've been much better off and have a lot more keys to bind and work with. I have to admit that I'm a script whore, but that's because I'm a Linux geek and a network engineer, so I'm used to doing everything with scripts.
Someone once said that admins are people that would rather spend four hours writing a script than to do a four second task everyday which accomplishes the same thing......laff, so true.

Mouse1, 2, 3 are Fire, Jump, Use in DX (in other games with secondary fire Enter is use, and Mouse3 is 2nd Fire)
Arrow keys for movement (lame, I know, but I'm too set in my ways now, and otherwise I would sometimes 'lose' the keys).
That makes the Numpad numbers the weapon/item keys. I also have right and left side buttons on my mouse, I use them for look/lean left/right if possible in that game, otherwise reload and some other useful function (they don't work in a lot of games).
Control is duck, PgDn or NumpadIns for zoom or binocs if applicable.
Oh, and I also use two-button mouse style figer placement, out of habit. This means secondary fire and primary fire share the same finger :erg: - I can cope though.
What fun!

cripes, you guys use weird control styles. Run for mouse2 has always seemed pretty basic to me, with left and right on the keyboard as strafe. o_O

In DM, the two things you are always doing are shooting and jumping. Hence, the need for mouse1 = fire, mouse2 = jump.
mouse1: Fire
mouse2: Jump
mouse3: Toggle scope + Targeting aug
upmousewheel: next item
downmousewheel: previous item
Q: lean left
W: forward (always run on, CTRL toggles walk)
E: lean right
R: reload
T: Talk
A: strafe left
S: Back
D: strafe right
F: drop item
G: Toggle Aqualung aug + Recirc Aug
Z: Toggle Light + Recirc Aug
X: I forget
C: Toggle Laser
V: Switch ammo type
TAB: Toggle Speed Aug + Recirc Aug
CAPSLOCK: Toggle Heal Aug + Recirc Aug
Shift: Toggle crouch/duck
Space: Use
Backspace: Screenshot
Keypad_enter: Quicksave
Keypad_plus: Quickload

Putting the quick-save key next to the quick-load key is asking for it, imho.
I'm unbinding my quick-load/save keys for the next game.

They're big keys, I'm not so uncoordinated as to make that mistake. I actually use those to keypad keys to activate my buying script (used as meta-keys, Enter to buy CT stuff, Plus to buy T stuff), so I'm used to them.
