......... and the flamethrower.......

its amazing that no one thinks the most "useful" aug is the INFOLINK
what mission could be properly completed without it?
and i know what your thinking "yeah yeah, we mean the augs that you upgrade yourself with." but still, an aug is an aug.

Definetly Speed for me. Well, mainly the jumping/decreased falling damage part of it.

Just for that matrix feel........

Speed Aug: 10' vertical, 27 mph, landings from 6 storeys without damage, and long jumps that are insane. This makes me feels like Steve Austin (The Bionic Man for you youngsters), and I find myself using it even more than the flashlight. Not to mention all the really neat places you can get to with it that would normally be impossible. I love this aug, and it really can't be beat for adding to your fun factor.
The health/regeneration is nice for when you run out of; medkits, juice/jolt, candybars, beer, wine, soy packs, etc. But, how often does that happen? Only really useful against the really tough encounters, but us sneaky ninja-types know that there is more than one way to skin a cat, or a Walton Simons.....
Recirculatory should be "on" automatically, since it has such a low power consumption anyway, just having it should automatically lower the power consumption of all other augs.
Flashlight + infolink + IFF is awesome, but since you can't "upgrade" those, I don't really consider them an aug (you don't have a choice, whereas you do with the others).
Microfibral Muscle is nice for making neat little situations where enemies can't reach you, or moving "stuff" around and making some fun situations.......adds to the replay value.
BTW, once everyone gets the Recirculation aug, they should bind their activation keys in user.ini to start the aug plus the recirc;

speed for me just being able to run up behind ppl and whack em with a baton to ko them.

user.ini changes to me are "cheating"; JC isn't a robot with auto triggers and outside control (unless that's the biggest conspiracy in the game! :eek: ).
square root-1 on 30/10/2002 at 01:17
run silent + cloak + power recirculator + dragon tooth (Not an aug, I know)
Whee!
Actually, these together make it a little too easy..... (until you run into a bot....)

Its not cheating, its an "interface limitation". If you (JC) had the recirc aug, you would naturally activate it whenever you activated any of your other augs, right? Well, why wouldn't you do this automatically? Simply take whatever keys/augs you use all of the time, and bind them to activate the recirc (F11, Aug 8) and the aug you want to utilize. How do you suppose JC activates those augs anyways? Do you think that he has to press a button on his body, or would he be able to do it with a thought? If he would do it with a thought, then he would activate all of the augs that he wanted/needed in an instant, and turn them off similarly (Speed aug on, run, jump, land, speed aug off). Thus, the "player" is limited to his input/interface, and must hit F11 then F7 in order to utilize both the recirc and the speed/silent-run aug, and then F7 and F11 again to deactivate?!? Give me a break!
BTW, did you ever consider that when you make any changes to the settings or key/mouse table from the in-game menu, that you are making changes to the User.ini? Unless you use the default settings for everything, then you are making changes to the User.ini. This isn't some purist thing, its tuning the game for your use. If you want to switch to a weapon that you use a lot, you shouldn't have to be forced to fumble around trying to find the key that switches to that weapon. I really don't understand people who think like this......I've run across the same thing in CS, people who think that making any changes to the config.cfg is cheating. Its really more a lack of knowledge that prevents them from binding keys to do the things they do all of the time, I think.
For example, I use the Mouse2 to "jump" in all FPS games, multiplayer or singleplayer. I've been using that since Quake1, so I'm used to it, and I'm not going to change to whatever Ion Storm likes to bind it to (SPACE, I believe) when I can easily bind it to Mouse2 and make it easier for me to play the game without having to relearn an entire interface.
So, since I already had TAB bound to toggle the Speed augmentation (which can be done through the menu or altering the User.ini), I went ahead and set TAB to activate both the recirc and the speed augs. Only makes sense, and I wouldn't call it an "auto-trigger", because I'm (JC) is the one that is in control of what and when augs are activated.
Tab=ActivateAugmentation 8|ActivateAugmentation 4
Ctrl=ActivateAugmentation 8|ActivateAugmentation 7
Capslock=ActivateAugmentation 8|ActivateAugmentation 3
Z=ActivateAugmentation 8|ActivateAugmentation 9
Knowledge is not a negative. Knowing how to make your gaming experience more intuitive or easier is giving you more "suspension of disbelief", if we assume that JC can activate his augmentations at will.
