"I payed £60 for my System Shock so I can feel smug. Nevermind that none of the money from used copies goes to the makers of the game, I would rather someone DIED IN A FIRE than played an 8-year old game without paying an inflated price for it."
Like many TTLGers, I see myself as a sort of evangelist for the LGS "aesthetic". As games that were far ahead of their time go, System Shock and Thief must be near the top of the list. Even this year Bioshock is bringing attention to the relevent genres, and we should be pleased about this - not punishing people who want to learn more about immersive gaming for not being on the bandwagon at the start. We don't have to play along with EA's IP-hoarding.
My condensed opinion:
Abandonware is not legal
Abandonware should be strictly defined and made legal.
and controversially...

If EA do kick off, use it to show that there is demand for a re-release (hopefully XP/Vista ready).

These are just forum rules. There's not much use in discussing them. Especially when it's been done over and over again.
On the other hand many people here have changed their attitude due to the changed situation and started helping people who may have a downloaded SS2 version. That used to be different.
Mercurius on 8/10/2007 at 01:47
At this point, the more people who play and enjoy SS2, the better. It's not like we can resurrect LGS through any amount of wishing and or guilt-tripping people who don't want to scour the nets for an increasingly rare legit copy.
That is all, carry on.

Occasionally flaming incompetent pirates is the price TTLG pays for staying on excellent terms with Irrational and other former LGS devs.
It's win-win, really.

That explains a lot...I wondered why they kept coming back after getting brutalized at every possible opportunity by the ingrates which frequent this site.
In that case...OP is the WORST. POSTER. EVER.

I wanna know the size of SS2, the required to install and the size of the disc (image, iso), anyone?
Burn in hell with your filthy iso's you depraved villain. I hope your loins fester with various diseases and/or cancer. CONSUME MY EXCREMENT YOU UNERASONABLE KNAVE!

You know what you guys. Go screw yourselves, If the devs at irrational or LGS or even 2K really cared about what goes on at this site maybe they would've "Suggested" to the guys that do the upkeep here to maybe have an update on the front page a little more often than once every 14 months. Face it.. this site is DEAD aside from the flaming egomaniacs thats lurk (not really) the forums.
Some people I've found just love to prey on people in a forum, all the flaming that goes on is to boost your ego. Why dont you just go find out where your flame victims live and go pay them a visit so you can finally just measure your penis in front of them to prove that you're the "bigger man" Honestly I know a LOT of people here have gone past the stage where you're barely post-pubescent boys in high school, yet are acting like they are even into their late 20s and early 40s.
I dont want to get into a pissing contest with anybody. Just grow up and be constructive.
Just because a person is new on this forum doesn't mean they're a sub-standard fan of the game. I've lurked on this forum for years before I finally registered.
If you dont want to answer a question, or you've come to a conclusion about the motives of a person by their post, why dont you keep it to yourselves and let the mod's talk to that person.
Cut it out with the backseat driving. Grow up just a little bit.
guess what? *gasp* I've downloaded SS2 and installed it straight from an abandonware site. I own the game and its in my posession but honestly the cracked version works much better and takes a lot less screwing around with XP than the retail disc does. Does that make me a criminal? maybe.. I dunno. But I paid for the game and this is the only way I can get it to run.

I'll care more about the devs when my legally purchased copy actually runs. Until it does, someone else can download SS2 and use my "license" to play.

Volitions Advocate, if this site is dead and/or populated by flaming egomaniacs then what is it you're doing here? And if your intent was a call to "grow up and be constructive", then why not start with the constructive criticism and growing up yourself? Or do you believe that your outbreak will help your matter?
The OP didn't get flamed for being "new on the forum", or for being a "sub-standard fan". While the flaming was somewhat uncalled for imo, you're making up reasons there. It is a bit stupid to ask an obvious warez question on a forum with a no-warez policy. And that's what ZB aimed at when calling the OP an incompetent pirate.
I mentioned it before, (almost) no one here throws a fit anymore when you download the game. But stupidity is still looked down upon.

System Shock 2 IS AbandonwareYou think SS2 is hard to find, hell, try looking for SS1. I found SS2 pretty easily on ebay. Yeah, it was still rather overpriced for such an old game, but it was still easy to find. I've been literally looking for
months for a full CD version of SS1 in box and still can't find one that isn't ridiculously priced (I'm talking $70+ dollars American here). :(
Chuck on 8/10/2007 at 14:35
Good luck finding SS1 with the original box. Perhaps you should lower your expectations and shoot for a CD only copy.
