There are now several mods for SS2. Which combination of mods do you guys recommend for an experience that is:
- true to the original
- is as scary and panic-inducing as possible
- looks good (SHTUP seems to be pretty good - I've played with it once)
I was reading the thread about the Alya mod and I think that would be interesting. About the rebirth, I didn't like the hybrids or the midwives (two enemies that appear frequently and need to be grotesquely scary - they are in the original, but of course the low polygons ...). The hybrids just looked silly, and with their mouths that visible it looks like their lips should move when they talk (and that probably isn't doable). And the midwives, well as you know they look very different. I forgot about the assassins. Didn't like them either. The dead bodies were okay but too round and bulky, and once again I found myself liking the originals better.
This was at a time when there were no rebirth rumblers or monkeys. I know someone had adapted the old midwife skin for the new model a while back. How do you guys like that? And how do you like the rumblers?
Maybe I'm just way to picky, but I don't remember any enemies from the rebirth that I wanted to run away from instead of laugh at. Boy, such a negative post. But a lot of the other stuff you all are working on here is pretty cool. So what's the best mod combo these days?

Well, SHTUP is great, and there are a variety of cosmetic mods on SBF that improve the look of the weapons Alya's mod is good, from what I've seen (I've only gotten as far as Engineering), and it does a lot in the way of balancing and making the game harder. Here's a tip: try playing SS2 on Impossible with the Alya mod. You won't be laughing at the Rebirth hybrids anymore. ;)
I like the new midwife skin better than the old one, which seems to be the opinion of a lot of people here. That's why Rebirth complemented on SBF came about, along with adding the Rumblers (which scare the crap out of me when I see them running at me) and the monkeys (which scare the crap out of me when they sneak up on me).
And no, no lip movement in SS2.

None of the major "changes" mods (SecMod, Alya, etc.) are particularly true to the original game, though.
SHTUP and SHMUP are essentials, in any case.

Just listen to the smart people above. Truest to the original, while still raising the standards well high, SHTUP, SHMUP, ADaoB, and a model mod of your choice. There are a bunch of great weapon mods now aside else.
Alyamod you can try, I tried to maintain the original feel as much as I could, but it's much more demanding then the original, makes the game much darker, cameras destruction triggers alarm, etc., of the major differences, you are warned . So, I recommend the above.

I recommend Mute Security Camera Bleeps and Flatliner's AdvancedMod 0.34 mods (they are compatible with ADaoB). They only make cameras a bit more challenging and nothing else.
Oh yes...if you just/also want cosmetic changes try also Eldron PSI Amp.

Flatliner's makes cameras far more of a threat, just as Alyamod does, which isn't in line with the original feel. Which is however good, since they were so pitiful originally ;)

The way in which I'm concerned about being true to the original is that I don't want rebirth midwives and cyborgs running around like cartoon characters in a horror movie. I looked at strangebedfellows and the following mods sound cool:
- SHTUP
- SHMUP
- ADaoB
- SecMod (the video made it look AWESOME)
- AlyaMod
- Tacticool
- Arcaniac creature models
- miracle freak's no camera yellow alert sound mod
SecMod and AlyaMod are probably incompatible and SecMod apparently includes ADaoB. I liked the screenshots of the Arcaniac crew member and hybrid models. Unfortunately there are no screenshots of other creatures. I'm hoping the midwives and cyborgs will look good. I might decide to use the Rebirth rumblers and monkeys. By the way, are there any new grub models? These little guys are in bad need of more polygons. So are the eggs.

If you don't like the Rebirth midwives (I assume you're objecting to the stupid original skin, not the one in Rebirth Complemented, but oh well), you could try (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=125644) Eldron's midwife
I can't stand the new
cyborg robot assassins in Rebirth, either. I just delete the files (assassin.bin and Redass.bin) after installing Rebirth.
SecMod is not compatible with AlyaMod or ADaOB... though SecMod includes most of the changes in ADaOB (though not the high-res screen textures in ADaOB v0.3.0, as those were only just released today!)
SecMod already doesn't have yellow alert sounds for cameras IIRC.
My recommendation would be to play through it with ADaOB if you want a true-to-original game, and to play with SecMod if you want a new challenge.
SHTUP and SHMUP go with either.

I used Arcaniac redux pack and summoned a bunch of enemies:
- corpses look good but very different
- hybrids I think are better and scarier than rebirth ones (but I wish they had pipes instead of wrenches)
- midwives are pretty good but not as good as rebirth complemented
- cyborg assassins would look pretty good without the holes
- no new grubs
- no new spiders (though original spiders don't look that bad)
- no new rumblers (I think - he killed me so fast it was hard to see)
I like the direction Eldron is taking with his midwife (keeping the original shape as closely as possible). I think it will be the best midwife when implemented.
