What's that noise? Oh, that's the wheels finally falling off. - by fett

The news this morning is enough to make me actually feel good (and I usually feel like shit in the mornings).
(
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7737093.stm) Cheney charged over jail abuses.
Now, we all know the bastard will either buy off the judge or plea bargain, but it's still nice to see that someone recognizes this prick for the criminal he is.
Also, this little gem:(
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/11/18/AR2008111803227.html?hpid=topnews) Ted Stevens loses Alaska is enough to put a smile on any sensible person's face. A crooked politician actually gets charged. Suprise mother fucker! You don't get to play anymore. IIRC he's held a senate seat longer than any current member.
This means the Democratic senate has a filabuster-proof majority for the first time since 1978 (and Jimmy Carter nowhere to be seen) - so long as the two independents that usually hang with them stay steady. I don't think the Democrats are going to fix everything, but if any group of people ever had a decent shot at it, these guys do.
Oh yeah, and let's not forget two months from tomorrow, a black democrat will be taking the highest office in the country.
It's a good day to be an American (finally!). Now if I could just get Carl Rove to quit popping up every time I turn a corner.

Shame they had to let Lieberman keep his chairmanship to get those numbers, though?

I think they'd have been one in the black even without him, but it certainly didn't hurt. :erg:

60 is the magic number. Dems have 58 as of now.
We still need Franken and Martin to win. Al Franken is still in a recount in Minnesota and Martin is an election redo in Georgia? I think. So he's campaigning right now.

Umm, you realize that this case won't last 5 minutes in a courtroom even without Cheney's money, right?

Yeah I know. It was just nice to see a headline with the words "Cheney" and "charged" in the same sentence. 'Twas a passing pleasure...:(
