Yeah, at that point I'd just give it to them as opposed to hiding in fear. While Osama may be able to hide from the feds, I don't have a well-funded organization to cover my ass.

Quit school and then steal, steal, and steal some more. :D

I would start a portal act in vegas, then I'd sell my act to David Blaine.

And then the only point in having the portal gun would be to hide with it. Great.
Er, no, you could go about doing whatever you usually do. I'm just saying, you'd have an easy exit option to keep from the feds.

The portal gun can create only two portals, one yellow and one blue. If you've constantly got one in a cave somewhere, all you'd be able to do is travel to that cave, which kind of defeats the point.

Don't you have to create a new portal every time you pass through it? It'd be kind of hard to make a portal in a cave if you're robbing a bank 50 miles away....unless you move the bank into the cave:ebil:

No, the portals stay until you replace it. But yeah, the thing is, you can LOOK THROUGH THE PORTAL - so people would be able to see where you were going. Plus, eventually someone is going to follow you through it - and if you redo the portal when they're inside it they'll just pop out on your side. So no, not really a perfect exit option.

I'd put one in John Malkovich's head.

I'd definitely use the portal gun to go back 19 mos. and drag my husband back to the present & then let him straighten out the ensuing mess. :p

Thought experiment: What defines the range of a portal shot? How far away can the surface you want to place the portal on be? Does it need air to fly? See where I'm heading?
Aim at the moon (a little ahead its path, mind you!) at shoot. :p -- Mars anyone? Jupiter?
You'll have to consider the imminent depressuring around your local portal of course...
(Yes, I'm a bit inspired by Peter F. Hamilton and probably other SciFi authors -- which reminds me, his new book ought to be out some time soon...)
