I'm currently employed as manager for a project, and we'd quite like to create a message board for this project. What would we need to put together a board with the same functionality as the TTLG forums? I'd assume it'd be the following, at least:
- vBulletin (any plugins?)
- domain name & webspace
What else? What would we have to look out for? And could this be done without the advertising, or would we have to go for something a little more expensive?
Very much looking forward to replies. :)

vBulletin. There are plugins, most of which are bespoke. There are also some additional admin tools which are also bespoke.
Your webspace would need to support PHP4 (preferably PHP5), MySQL 4.1 (preferably 5.0) and have access to a mailserver.
To be honest while there are people who run forums without much webserver management knowledge I would not expect to be able to run one decently without it, particularly if it is busy.

Thanks for your reply. What would be considered a 'busy' forum? I have no idea how many people actually use the TTLG forums, for instance, because you always seem to see the same 10-20 faces... ;) In the case of this project, it'd be perhaps 90 registered users, 120 max.; accounts wouldn't be available to the public. There'd be 4-5 subforums. Does that make things more manageable? :)
Out of interest, what sort of hand-tailored plugins and admin tools are you using here?
