I stole a book from the Mages Guild in Vivec and sold it.
Later I started the duties for the Mages quest in Balmora. Had to retrieve a book from the mages guild in Vivec.
Worst mistake: Did not remember who I sold the book to. And restarted the game with a new character.

My worst mistake so far was choosing a class (Crusader) where only half the minor/major abilities are any actual use to me (I barely use Destruction, Restoration and Amourer, and don't use Medium Armour or Axe at all). I'm thinking of starting over with a custom class, but it's hard to decide on the exact abilities, especially ones I haven't tried before.
Do you think its worth starting over at level 6 if you're a bit unhappy with your character?

Its always better to restart a character that you are unhappy with than to keep slogging away with a dead weight....
My worst mistake: well, I was following the main quest-line and was sent to "Ilumbi (sp?): carcass of the saint" and used Chameleon throughout the whole maze of warrens and caves (collecting like four or five ascended sleeper souls to boot :cheeky: ) and when confronted by the "priest" of Dagoth Ur, I slew him after the conversation, and got Corprus from his dying curse....*Reload*

Always create a custom class!
If you don't like your character start over for definite.
My biggest mistake was not creating a custom class when I started and then having to start over at Lv9 because I hated my character.
In regards to skills I've found that you'll always have minor skills that you know you won't use but not including them means it might be difficult advancing in your chosen guild.
Take my current Lv15 character he has majors in Long Blade, Light Armour, Athletics, Acrobatics, and Sneak - all skills you'll use. Unfortunately his minors are Short Blade, Destruction, Alteration, Enchant, and Security - I only really use security and the magic is a waste because I just can't cast not to mention Short Blade that I never use because my Long Blade skill is better than twice as good.
I joined the Morag Tong but I've found it hard advancing recently because I'm not an assassin class and my custom skills set don't fit with the guilds favourite skills.
I think I should take some of my own advice and start over...
“But I'm level 15 I can't start over (again)!” :(
Can anyone PLEASE tell me what House Redoran's favourite skills are? I don't want to mess another character up... :tsktsk:
Thanks

Ok, I'll probably start again, but I have a few questions:
1.) How does Medium Armour compare to Heavy Armour in terms of protection and movement? Being faster and using fatigue slower would be nice, but Heavy provided a lot of protection for my Crusader.
2.) Which magic skills are the best if you don't plan on directly attacking with them, but instead using them to complement your Long Blade attack?
3.) Is Alchemy very useful?
4.) Is Stealth very useful is you don't plan on joining the Thieves Guild?
5.) Is it better to use a Sword and Shield, or a two-handed sword? How does your amoru choice affect this?
I'm planning on making my character something like this:
Major:
Long Blade
Medium Armour
Speechcraft
Block
Security
Minor:
Mysticism
Enchant
Restoration
Alchemy
Mercantile
Athletics
Does this seem any good? Which sign would people reccomend for this character?
Thanks for any help, I'm having trouble choosing due to a lack of knowing which magic types are good/bad/useful/useless and relative strengths of various weapons and armour.

1) Never used medium armour myself but to be honest i've heard bad things about this armour type as the best light armour (glass) provides more protection than the best medium and of course daedric armour (heavy) beats them all... On the other hand orkish armour does look great and you can get a full set from an ork walking around the deadric runes
closest to hla Oad.
2) Good question. I use destruction and mysticism because destruction provides great ranged attacks when you get good enough and mysticism provides transportation and magical defences. Illusion may also be a good choice if you fancy blinding, paralysing, or turning invisible but I'd rather hit them with my sword...
3) Alchemy is great if you're patient - you can make some great potions, which will not only help you out but also provide a healthy income as you can sell them. The only downside is it takes some time to ‘get good' with this skill and collect the equipment.
4) Yes, what about the Morag Tong? Seriously it is a great skill but its effectiveness is modified by how heavy your boots are so if your planning a heavy armour character I'd reconsider including it. On the other hand the skill is good for getting critical hits on creatures but to be honest your sneak has to be really good to get criticals consistently.
5) The age old question... Double handed weapons deal out more damage generally but many one handed weapons weigh less and as such you can get more hits in the same time as it takes to swing a double-handed sword. I personally use double-handed swords because I love how they look and the damage they cause but I do realise that at a high skill level ‘Block' can become a very powerful defence. I'd say they are both as good as each other it's simply a personal preference which you choose but once you've made a decision stick with it.
As far as I know your armour type no affect on your abilities to wield single or double handed weapons.
Your character -
First of all you have 6 minor skills instead of 5 so you'll have to sort that out.
Your character doesn't seem obviously specialised to either, combat, magic, or stealth in my experience this leads to wasted skills as when you advance you can only increase 3 attributes that generally leaves some of your skills behind.
If you want to keep the major skills the way they are I'd change the minor skills to the following -
Major:
Long Blade (combat, strength)
Medium Armour (combat, endurance)
Block (combat, Agility)
Speechcraft (stealth, personality)
Security (stealth, Intelligence)
Minor:
Athletics (combat, speed)
Enchant (magic, intelligence)
Alchemy (magic, intelligence)
Mercantile (stealth, personality)
Sneak (stealth, Agility)
You'll notice I've taken out your spell casting abilities - you don't need them and won't use them enough to justify levelling up their governing attributes. Your enchant and alchemy skills will if concentrated on allow you to compensate for your lack of magic by your ability to create potions to restore your health etc and enchant items to attack, teleport, heal, etc.
If you decide to replace medium armour with heavy make this character combat specialise but if you replace it with light armour make him a stealth-specialised character.
In terms of star sign I'm unsure it's really down to personal taste and unless you're a mage the affects generally become less apparent as the game goes on. I'd suggest the warrior or the lady or if you decide to specialise in stealth perhaps the steed or thief might be more beneficial.
My last bit of advice is make sure you like what your character looks like because if you don't you'll end up starting over.
Cheers :)

The best battle axe does 1-80 damage while the best two hand sword does 1-60 damage, IIRC. I see that you long blade as a major, tough, you might eventually want to use sword and shield style...

Cheers :) Wow, thanks for the help :). You're right about not including magic skills, they'd probably be more trouble than they were worth. I'll save those for when I make a magic specialist character. And the whole "liking what they look like" thing is why I'm interested in Medium armour, because I think Bonemold looks really cool. Do you know where I could find a screenshot of a full suit of glass or Daedric armour? Thanks again :).
Red on 2/7/2002 at 13:41
No problem gravity I'm glad to help because I remember what it was like trying to get some opinions on my characters - not very easy at all.
I don't know where to get a screen shot but I do know the console codes for the armour so you can just try all the suits out decide which you like the best and then start over.
To open up the console press the ~ key or if you live in the UK like me press the key just to the left of the 1 on your keyboard. Copy the commands exactly and press return after each line.
Daedric armor - Complete
player->AddItem "daedric_shield" 1
player->AddItem "daedric_cuirass" 1
player->AddItem "daedric_greaves" 1
player->AddItem "daedric_pauldron_left" 1
player->AddItem "daedric_pauldron_right" 1
player->AddItem "daedric_gauntlet_left" 1
player->AddItem "daedric_gauntlet_right" 1
player->AddItem "daedric_boots" 1
player->AddItem "daedric_towershield" 1
player->AddItem "daedric_god_helm" 1
For glass just replace the deadric bit with glass e.g.
Glass Armor - complete
player->AddItem "glass_boots" 1
player->AddItem "glass_cuirass" 1
player->AddItem "glass_greaves" 1
player->AddItem "glass_helm" 1
player->AddItem "glass_pauldron_left" 1
player->AddItem "glass_pauldron_right" 1
player->AddItem "glass_bracer_left" 1
player->AddItem "glass_bracer_right" 1
player->AddItem "glass_shield" 1
player->AddItem "glass_towershield" 1
With a little common sense you can modify these commands for other armour types like orcish and bonemold just remeber that some armour types have bracers and some have gauntlets.
Be careful not to give in to 'cheating' though as it does spoil your enjoyment but I understand that you want to see what your character will look like after a couple of weeks worth of playing.
Daedric is notoriously hard to come by however so be careful before deciding to use heavy armour with the sole purpose of finding a full suit.
Oh and in regards to double handed weapons double handed axes do generally have a better max damage BUT they do generally weigh a lot more and as such hit even slower than a double-handed sword. In this decision I'd refer you to how you'd like your character to look e.g. orcs and nords warriors etc look great with big axes while Imperials and Elves look better with claymores and dai-katanas.
Good luck :)

Also the only Daedric Paludrons available without console commands or plugins are worn by Divayth Fyr whom you need for the main quest.
