I'm starting my junior year at the University of Washington and I am 33, so you could be a career student like me. It's fun! Really it is! I went into the service right at 18 and they sent me to desert storm, then I have worked as a bicycle mechanic for the last twelve years while going to school part time. I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. What ever you do, don't be a philosophy student. you'll end up working on bicycles like a friend of mine did. The trouble with going to college is that they make you think that you'll be able to do what ever you go to school for and that is almost always not the case. Keep an open mind and let the courses that you take, help you decide. Every class I take, I find a use for something I learned in them. I originally wanted to be a computer programmer because they used to make a lot of money, but then I took some programming classes and decided that the money wasn't worth it. Don't pick your major based on how much money you might make or you'll hate life. And another thing. Why are you trying to figure your life out on a forum. Go out and smell out the universe and run in the direction that smells the best.

The only things that you can study that will almost certainly give you a job in that subject are vocational things like medicine and law. But that doesn't mean that you can't do anything else if you do something vocation iyswim.

Actually taking a year to travel is a good idea. See the world, meet new people, reflect on things. Do it.
Fuegan on 30/8/2005 at 09:12
If he went travelling though, he'd go to some place and get all confused so find some Internet Cafe and ask us for advice, staying there religiously until he got an answer. Then some pretty young lady would come waltzing in, for which he'd need more advice and before you know it, BAMMO, he's stuck in deepest darkest Bulgaria in an Internet Cafe asking advice on whether to stay, whether to go, how to cook scrambled eggs without making them the colour yellow and he'd not see anything let alone figure it out.
Don't confuse the boy!
This would never have happened if they hadn't burnt that poor fucker's wood :(

Start playing Counter-Strike professionally.

Better he does that in another country though Feugan, at least it would be a teeny tiny bit interesting then. Plus he might make a racists mistake and have the racism slapped out of him (see other threads I can't be arsed to find for details). Never a bad thing.
Fuegan on 30/8/2005 at 09:51
This is true, sexism too. He might not find an Internet Cafe because he needs our advice as to how they're found then he'd be stuck in another country WITHOUT Internet.
BONUS.
Do it, Hacky.
[edit]Still think he's someone's gimmick though
