I agree one of the drawbacks is the lack of goods to purchase. At the beginning of the game you needed money to get better equipped but that was short-lived and money bacame good only for repairing weopons.
One other thing was the size of the game. It had the potential to be massive and I was a little dissapointed it wasn't bigger. The storyline hinting at other kingdoms being accessible was tantalizing. Do I smell expansion pack/sequel?
Small grievances though. So far I've really liked this game.

I agree with you about Arx not having enough variety of exotic weapons. My strategy was to hoard my money throughout the game expecting better spending opportunites to arise later. In the Underworld games, you could also end up rich by the end, with the loot serving no other purpose than to line your pockets (which I find satisfying anyway), but there seemed to be more exotic items to be found than what there is in Arx.
However, as far as BG2 is concerned, I have always found that those Black Isle games go completely overboard with the amount of different items that they make available. There were loads of weapons in BG2 that had completely different names but ended up doing more or less the same thing.

That map isn't much more than an artistic drawing of the general area of the city. UW2 had an actual map of LB's castle that you could follow.
