I did.
I can hardly remember nirnroot, though.
Damn, I should do the quest again as fast as possible - I totally forgot how it all looks inside :)

Yes, the keys don't weigh anything, but they clutter up my inventory to a point where it's no longer fun. Imagine you want to put something from your inventory into a container. The something is at the very bottom of the inventory, and there are about 200 keys infront of it. *scroll scroll scroll gah*
Wasn't the old rusty key from Mages Guild in Leyawin for one of the doors in the fortress during the recommendation quest?
Or maybe some of the chests in the guildhall itself, which I've had probably opened in the normal way with lockpicks before. That's another one of my issues with the darn keys: to train my security, I should open locks with the lockpicks instead of with keys, anyway. But then, you get the "this door needs a key" issue every once in a while, which is also annoying.
After "Canvas in the Castle" in Chorrol, I even had the impression that a door will remain unlocked if you opened it with a key before. At least, I could still walk through all the castle doors after the countess had taken back her key. But maybe the doors reset after a few days, dunno.
I'll just dump them all into the wardrobe in Bruma. Err, except the house keys.
Yes, Bruma is my favourite house. :D I own them all and most are completely furnished, but I prefer the house in Bruma. No loading zones, and enough chests for intelligent storaging. The only immediate disadvantages are IMO that Bruma is way off from most of Cyrodill; the snow; and that the merchant in town doesn't have enough money.

I think there is a mod (don't remember the name but I used it before and it is very convenient) that changes your inventory interface. If you install it, all you will need to do is iconify your keys. Then you will pass the icon without any sound.
Lytha on 8/2/2007 at 12:56
I think you mean the keychain mod. In normal browsing through my inventory, it hides the 200 keys indeed behind one single icon.
However, it causes a 2-10 second lag now when I open my inventory, because it has to hide the 200 keys then. Also, it does not hide the keys with the keychain icon when I interact with a container, and I often do that (dump a sigil stone here, dump stolen silver glasses there...)
The sheer amount of keys that my packrat woodelf collected by now is simply past the point of being bearable.

But if you leave them at your home and all of a sudden realize, many miles away, that you need a particular one key....isn't it going to spoil some pleasure?
You can always use fast travel mode though, so I guess it ain't much of a problem.
Actually, the first time the idea that keys in my inventory may create too much noise, has just occured to me when I read your post. Never thought it can appear to be a problem. But since I have this idea now, I should definitely try to shake some keys about some years. Just to check if everything works properly :)

The version of that mod I downloaded added in a couple of other options for the keychain, one of which removes the lag when opening your inventory
but you can't use the jeys on the chain. So if you come to a door you have to open with a key you've got, you have to open your inventory, switch to the automatic mode, open the door, reopen your inventory (10 second lag) then switch back to the other mode.
It's not great, but seeing as you don't need to use keys that often then it's an ok work around.
I would just dump the keys, but I'm not sure if I'd need any of them in future, and if I did, I wouldn't know which one I'd need as most aren't 'properly' labeled. :/

I just dumped them, except the house keys and those that I really had no clue about where I got them from; so far, no harm done. I think there are less than half a dozen keys that are really needed for unpickable doors, and those keys usually disappear after the quest. The 300 other keys are only there for convenience, as the lockpicking minigame surely is annoying.
Then I did the Dark Brotherhood killing spree (while keeping my murder-count at 5, hehe - after a certain change in handwriting, I started to even enjoy this killing spree, lol), and got rewarded by even more keys.
During that, I discovered the use of the "A rusty key" from the Leyawin Mages Guild! It opened the door to the dead drop chest in Nornal; a few levels below the first one in that ruin, there was another "A rusty key", matching the first one. Makes you wonder why the Mages had this key, doesn't it...

Buy a house in one of the towns and store all the keys in anything in the house!!!

I've never had any issue of needing a key once I drop them somewhere. If a key is important, it won't have a generic name. I'd just deposit ALL your keys in a container, then go through and pick up important ones. You won't have any trouble identifying ones you need (or 'might' need) and should come out with 20 keys max--most likely less than 10.

I dump off keys that I use once I use them or once the quest they are attatched to is done. If I run into a door that needs them, I just console unlock it instead of running all the way home. Its just a waste of time and you already HAVE the key, just not on you, so I dont think its that bad an exploit.
