Interesting. I have also used Win 98 VMs recently to check software against old Windows versions and also not had problems.
Windows 98SE was a decent product for its time. I loved both it and NT4 - but for different reasons. However, both have definitely passed their best and although they're good for running old games neither are still being updated by Microsort or by most hardware manufacturers.

My Geforce 7600GS started making grinding noises, so I replaced it with one of the cards my friend's husband gave me. The 7600GS would have worked with win2k, but this x1600xt will not. It sure makes a terrific thief machine though with a friendly video card and the old SB Live!
I'll probably try to oil the fan on the 7600GS tomorrow.
