Think about it this way: it's like the "show, don't tell" rule for writers. The worse the editing and camera work, the more you get "told" vague impressions of what's occurring instead of being "shown" details. So, the reaction changes from, "Did you see that awesome lock he used to trap the guy's gun at the same time he used his foot to kick the guy's leg out from under him?" to "I'm not sure exactly what happened there but he disarmed the other guy and it was
fast and
brutal. Sweet."
So, yes; it's rarely hard to tell what happens overall, but what you end up with is people thinking that a scene was awesome because they got the
impression that something awesome happened rather than because they actually
saw it happen.
The latter is what makes for good choreography and stuntwork--actually watching someone pull off a cool move, not just knowing that a cool move occurred.
Thank you. That's about the most coherent and logical critique of shaky-cam camerawork I've seen (most people I've talked to just say "shaky-cam sucks!" without really giving a real reason why they think that).

Images of GIs whooping and hi-fiving while dazed and bloody parisiennes look for missing limbs in craters spring to mind.
Lol, exactly. I also couldn't help but think of the scene from the beginning of
Team America: World Police when I was watching that trailer.

Anyone seen "Taken" with Liam Neeson? No shaky cam and aside from not breaking his legs in a leap to a boat all the action was fairly ruthless and straightforward. It was very understandably badass.
Yes, very nice actionscenes in that one.
Grosse Point Blank was on TV the other day and I was (again) amazed at how good the actionscenes are in it. Seeing as it's supposed to be a comedy and focus mostly on the characters they could've well settled for doing some half-assed action, but they really went all out. Just look at (

The fight with Benny "The Jet" Urquidez is one of the crowning moments of the movie in terms of build-up and pay-off; the unsubtle instinctive shift from nostalgic reverie to instant fucking badassery is why I rate the flick so highly. It's nearly goddamn perfect. Just watch Cusack's face crumple as the gravity of what's just happened dawns on him as the blood is still spurting over his hand from Benny's neck.
Now I need to watch it again.

Just to add fuel to the flame. What the hell is it with these idiot female added to the elite team to start a "love story". In too many of these flicks, the female character is as necessary as tits on a boar.
Garcia in Aliens, was cool. Sure, she had a minor thing with one of her buddies, but she wasn't thrown into the mix just to sex up the plot.
Sigorney was boss. In all three of the flicks she was a character with character, and not a fluff piece added so the hero could rescue her.
And these flicks with conflicts generated between the "so-called" female lead and the, too often, stupid male who end up in each others bed, or arms.
You don't need the helpless, or masterful female thrown into the swat team to sweeten the plot. In most cases it ends up so stupidly laughable that the main plot line dies amidst a flurry of giggles.

Yes, that did have pretty good action scenes. Another one I liked was the shootout in the convenience store while that one guy plays an arcade version of
Doom II with headphones on, completely oblivious to the whole thing. :laff:
I wonder if they actually ever made an arcade
Doom, or if that was just made specifically for the film.

Yeah, it had good action scenes. I'm hoping for a series or something with Liam based on this character.
I am so sick of the shaky cam thing. I love the Bourne movies, but I hate the cinematography. They make man-carried-cameras that have gyros and what-not installed to prevent this sickly shake. You can do jumping jacks while filming, and it still is smooth.
They should have a little coin box at the theater on the chair in front of you. Pay as you go. That way, shaky cam movie comes on, you stop paying and leave. If you neglect to put in coin, then a spike juts out of the middle of your seat to de-throne you. Win win, except for all the coins that will roll to the front of theater. Perhaps you could buy a debit card at beginning of the movie, and remove it when you leave. You can cash out balance of movie you didn't watch. :thumb:

If the boar doesn't have 'em, then neither will the offspring. Kinda necessary.
Anyhoo, at least the Bourne films sort of said: "Let's film stuff that is at least possible in real life." They practiced the car chases and the jumping through the windows, etc. So it could at least potentially be real, even though it's still really fast paced and tense. I think Koki sort of has a point. Just watching the Cobra commercials on TV, it's like: "Oh COME ON!!"

I'm sure his daughter goes on more than one holiday in her life.
Muzman on 30/7/2009 at 10:07
Didn't they already make that series and call it 24?
Fragony on 30/7/2009 at 12:56
What I want to know, where did the mandatory sex-scene go.
