A lot of people love the first season, but it's much simpler than what follows. The core mysteries of the island aren't really delved into much until Season two and beyond.

Watch it from the start to the end of the crazy 4rth season (
he moved the island!) before you spout such uninformed drivel.
You may want to spoiler tag it seeing as this thread is full of people who haven't watched lost. Granted, they probably never will and if they did then by the time they got to that point they would have probably forgotten about this spoiler, but it's still good courtesy to tag it.

I watched the first season of Lost up until episode 14 or so and found it to be lazily-written and flabby. Maybe there's a cumulative power if you stick with it but I just didn't have the strength to wade through any more.
Like I said - 1.5 season before it gets interesting.

I haven't seen season 4 yet but seems I won't even have to now.

That is way too much time to wait for a tv show to get good
I never watched Lost, probably because most people talk about Lost the same way most people talk about books like The DaVinci Code.

I find it's best to watch Lost when it comes out on DVD - rent the box set and you never have to wait til next week to find out about the 12 millionth cliffhanger mystery they throw at you.
Lost is a great concept, but the problem is, they keep upping the ante, and it's one of those "mystery" shows that cannot possibly come up with anywhere near a satisfying explanation by the end. There's too much build up. Shows like this should come full story arc in maybe two seasons, and quit while they're ahead. Need I mention the later series' of the x-files?

Perfect answer right here. I've been watching week to week since the beginning, but a lot of my friends refused to. Once I got the DVDs and lent them to them though, they suddenly fell in love with the show.
It's my favourite show on TV right now. Maybe that's not saying much because 95% of TV is garbage. But even with so many unanswered questions, the great writing and intelligence offered by Lost keeps me coming back. My only fear is that, as mentioned above, they won't be able to give a satisfying answer to everything. However, I have faith in the claims that the writers know what's going on (and not just because they say so, but because of hints in the show and the way it's developed, especially the excellent 4th season).

That in itself is the issue with too many people these days...lack of attention span and lack of patience. It's instant gratification...or nothing these days. I hate it.

I personally have no problem with waiting each week (though huge gaps between seasons, such as this one, are terrible). It gives me plenty of time to digest the episode and discuss it with other people.

I saw a few chapters, but just it didn't grab my interest at all.
