Ok, so I've been going through the Assassin's Creed games like a knife through butter lately and just started Origins and for the first time in the series, I have to tone down the graphics settings.
Haven't upgraded card for over 2 years, so figure this might be time to take a look and see what's out there, and holy shit all of the current gen cards are either impossible to get, or being hawked on eBay for a trillion euros.
What gives? Did I just choose a weird moment to go GPU shopping, or is this just how it is now?
Should I wait? Are there any cards currently worth getting which are obtainable (current card is (

[EDIT] Alternatively, is it worth me trying some SLI type stuff to get some extra frames? My motherboard is (

Pandemic induced shortages / shipping cost increases / increased demand + material shortages and other bottlenecks + cryptominers. Wait for summer. SLI is not worth it.

Cool, will keep my head down. AC:O looks pretty onwhat I've got it set at anyway.

Ok, so with chip shortages looking to push supply out to (
https://www.pcmag.com/news/inside-the-gpu-shortage-why-you-still-cant-buy-a-graphics-card) mid 2022, are there any worthwhile options for me to beef up my GPU power at all?
I am playing AC: Valhalla at the moment and safe to say that I am pushing my current card to its limit and getting what look like overheat artifacts for the first time in ages.
Is there anything out there which will give me even a 10-20% performance increase without me having to fork over my weight in gold?

Outside of buying a pre-built computer at a price that's at least somewhere near its worth I don't think there's much you can do.

GUess I'll see what I have in my backlog and be content for a bit then.
Thanks.

Yeah, I'd wait it out, personally. A 6GB 1060 isn't a bad card to be stuck with. For people who bought it near launch, one of the best hardware investments in a long long time, I'd say.
Things should start slowly getting better once the Etherium craze dies down and the pandemic-driven demand goes down a bit. Hardware Unboxed released a video on this topic just today:

I had an MSI GTX 1060 6GB and it served me well until I got a 3840x1600 monitor. It was a really efficient card too, low power, quiet, cool.
Early in the pandemic, when the shortages were still toilet paper, disinfectants, and freezers, I bought a 5700XT card for ~$430. My gaming time has dropped off a cliff since then, but I guess I'm glad I didn't wait. It is a nice performance upgrade over the 1060, although the power consumption is much higher.

GT640 2GB here, great card, it runs Skyrim at max settings like butter, and that's enough for me. It's old though, I'm considering getting a 710 as a backup in case it fails

5700XT was a great buy in hindsight and should last a while. Some people exchanged theirs for a 6700XT, because the 5700XT is apparently super good at mining and around the same price.

Looks like 710 is a much worse card for gaming. I'd at least consider something like the GDDR5 version of GT 1030.
