You said you weren't playing that much and you only like a few games. If you like SS2 you should definitly try Deus Ex (Game of the year 2000). Great game, i'm sure you will enjoy it.
Oh, and just to be on the safe side - yes, you can play it with a mouse and it has mouselook ;D

It's always your choice, but if you were to play on Impossible mode, you'd have to be a Marine just to have a chance of surviving since weapon skill will be tantamount on that level of difficulty. Just my opinion.
On easier settings, you can role play your character with no real handicaps you can't live with.

You don't have to be a marine to survive Impossible. It is quite easy to reach the BotM without ever firing a gun.

Of course, there's that one freak who used speed hypos to bounce off the walls and kill the BOTM brain with the wrench.

You've been into FPS's longer than me, and I still enjoy SS1.
I encourage you to give it a shot. It'll take a little getting used to the controls and odd graphics, but when you do, it's really a great game. Just give it a chance. At first, I thought I would never get the hang of it, but I kept pressing forward, and now I can enjoy it as much as SS2.
