Originally started writing this post for GenGaming but realized it deserved a broader scope.
As some of us who don't have numbers in our username probably realize, horror is very subjective. What makes one person jump out of their skin puts another person to sleep. You might be completely unaffected by Silent Hill, while someone else may need to play the Resident Evil parody in Conker's Bad Fur Day with the lights on during the day.
So here's my question to you: what scares the piss out of you most?
I think for me it's probably a good tie between being trapped in the dark with enemies that could rip me apart the minute the lights go out (
especially if I'm being hunted/chased) and, ironically enough, people. Human brutality scares me. When humans are the real monsters, that's what scares me. And I don't mean Hitler types, or General Shepherd types, and to an extent I don't mean (
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Monster) Johan types either. (Though Johan himself can be terrifying precisely because he's seldom seen and we usually only see the massacres he leaves behind, but that's primarily an effect of the plotting.) What I mean are ordinary people engaging in raw, animal violence, either through outside influence or because they've been horrible people all along. Like Manhunt. Where games like Resident Evil or Silent pit you against monsters of biological, supernatural, or psychosymbolic origin, in Manhunt the only monsters, the true monsters, are other people, showing them at their worst, showing just how awful they can be.

I'd say that the pinky cute valley girl and all the cute activities of any kind scare the hell out of me. I can play any horror game you want me to, but the kiddy cute is just too much.

Footsteps in the dark. Especially coming up a stairway towards me, slowly and deliberately. Pretty clichéd maybe but pant wetting none the less. I don't like the dark much when I'm inside and try and avoid it as much as possible. Outside is not a problem, even in the woods. I think... :erm:

I'm with you on the human brutality thing. One big reason that Biosock kinda works for me on a primal level. Things like the Reavers from Firefly, Hannibal Lector, Saw, general torture, etc. I can't stand the idea of people being in physical pain, and the terror is heightened when it's another human inflicting it purposefully for reasons I can't begin to understand. It's what makes rape, home invasions, and to a lesser extent, child molestation so raw and frightening to me.
Also, Stitch without facial hair.

Being a vampire and then being sealed into the wall for all eternity like Brad Pitt's character in Interview with the Vampire.
