I decent set of headphones can help with immersion. I've had many moments of looking behind me. And then, I got it under control, and I was spinning around in the game (Thief 2) because someone opened an actual door behind me. :rolleyes:

Headphones are great becuase they remove a lot of the "normal" noise of the room you are in.
There is always background noise, from a TV / Radio, the noise of fans, cantral heating, etc, etc.
If you remove those sounds and only have the sound from the game it really draws you in.

Oh, man, System Shock is good for so many reasons..
The first one, I thought was the most scary, because it's just so quiet, yet, you can hear what all of the enemies are doing. Opening doors, wiring, etc. You know they're there, but you don't exactly know where, or what they are doing. And lots of times, you're just walking, uncaring, you know that you have killed all of the enemies in the area, but all of a sudden, just as one of the logs says, they come out of nowhere. Terrified, you jump 50 feet in the air, switching to appropriate weapon and/or ammo type, *(Wir-wir) Click click*, you know you're going to die, but somehow, through all of the Matrix moves you do, thanks to your gibbon arms :sly: , you pummel your enemy and eviscerate him, vaporizing his body afterwards. Now is that awesome or what?! And you can do very similar on the second one, except you can't use gibbon arms to lean at impossible angles, or vaporize their corpses. But you get to do awesome "Ninja-like" moves with your wrench and stack their bodies up, vaporizing isn't really too power preserving, you end up using more energy than Al Gore's house produces in.. About an hour? (Which is still a lot, right?);)
But hey, those are just random, quick moments. Talking about why the whole game is great? There is just so much to say.
There are so many ways to play the game, even from the very beginning, that adds to the reply value tremendously. You could try to play it like Quake 4, but you'll soon notice that the enemies aren't coming out in repetitive waves anymore.. And where's all the ammo? At first, it's hard because you have to adapt, learn the art of ammo preservation and wrench-play. You are all alone, but they don't know who you are. You're pretty much a secret agent! So you can put some of your GoldenEye karate chopping skills in there with your Quake 4 shooting skills. But then, you realize that.. You can have magic powers.. The psi! Now psi is very stressing at first. You've got all of these different things and levels.. Now if you're say, a WoW addict, you'll feel more welcomed to this game, because you get to level up! Fantastic!
It's so awesome how the engine works. You have leaning, you actually get to pick up and throw objects rather than just standing on top of them, heck, I even love how Goggles walks! But he doesn't just walk, he climbs up ladders and some walls, too.
Man, so much text, but that's barely anything on the gameplay, and I haven't even started on why the storyline is so amazing! But you probably already know a lot, you made it pretty far.
If you want the game to have better detail, there are lots of mods out there to change the game almost completely or barely at all. Reborn and SHTUP are the best in my opinion to giving the game much better detail, and what's awesome about System Shock 2's engine is that it can hold and load so much without even lagging a tiny bit, even on old machines. So a lot can be added and changed with no worries.
There's so much more to add, but I feel that this post is pretty satisfactory to convince about anyone to play System Shock 2. I'll be shooting hoops in the athletic sector of the recreation deck. Maybe I'll swim in the pool, floating life preservers for everyone! :joke:

Insects? What? There are no insects at all in the game and I will stand behind that as fact. You are obviously lying through your teeth about this whole thing :cheeky:
Unless the flies are actually insects...

Flying Swarms and Spiders... I hate the spiders.... and the swarms...... grrr.....
I just think its an awesome game, its so nonlinear to me, no one way hallways, so many choices, Psi, Marine, Hacker, Gunner, Left, Right, Research, Sodas or Chips...

Spiders != insects
Spiders = arachnids
Flying Swarms != insects
Flying Swarms = annelids
Remember kids, a spider isn't a bug :thumb:
I hate how the nonlinearity of the game really dies as you get farther in. Medsci is the best, and then it goes down from there.
