I always feel like such a stickler when I point out spelling or grammar issues in one of my mission reviews. I don't understand why so many missions have these issues. It is one of the easiest things to get right, far easier than building the mission in the editor.
Actually as a non-native speaker it's not necessarily so easy. Pronounciation is way different in other languages (even English itself has a so random label on that :) ), and writing English stuff, especially when tired can result in trivial mistakes you either notice or not. Oftentimes I'm writing something and change up letters or even complete words, which I quickly correct with a "WTF did I write?!" comment to myself. Now if I'm not noticing such a mistake it might stand a chance to stay there, and proofreading does not work with 100% efficiency either.
Of course "Kepper leaders Diery" caliber spelling mistakes should never reach a finished FM, but eh... things like this can happen.
Though if you are annoyed by such a mistakes (I am to some extent too), add to that if you find such a pet peeve in your OWN made FM. That feeling... :p :cheeky:

It's true that we find it harder to spot mistakes we made ourselves. That's why playtesters and proofreaders are important. The spell checker in Microsoft Word can only do so much.

True, most of the time. But Mark Smith (AsyluM) pointed out when I was proofreading his Hidden Agenda readables that some are intentional, because in the "real world", people make a lot of mistakes. So there's a fine balancing act between perfect spelling and grammar, and realism.

Another problem, at least with a few german authors and translators, is, that they simply do not care. I was a beta tester once for a german author and pointed out the mistakes but she refused to change them. Those weren't spelling mistakes but a refusal to use the correct form of the word after spelling reforms (which we have quite often in germany).
In the end it is of course the authors choice how to write things. It's just for me that those spelling mistakes make it harder for me to enjoy readables. And those readables with intentional spelling mistakes because of the low education level of the character in game make it really difficult to understand the text in a foreign language. I, in general, would appriciate it, if missions would be more inclusive and that authors would keep in mind that not everyone is a native english speaker.

Pseudo-fireplaces. I.e., fireplaces with no flue to vent the smoke.

That wouldn't bother me at all. In this case it's a spelling that is older, and used to be correct.
It's like if an FM author decided to use 18th century spelling on certain words, I'd actually find it charming

Maybe you can understand the difference between a post on an online forum and a mission with sometime years of development and beta testing and between writing something in your native and a foreign language.
The purpose of language is communication which only works if a language has certain rules that everyone knows and follows. That's why I'm bottered by intentional spelling mistakes.
And I thought I could right one of my pet peeves on a thread about pet peeves. But glad you had some fun.

I kinda feel that if it's intentional, it is not a mistake.
Also, those reforms aren't mandatory for anyone except officials, schools and universities. You have plenty of newspapers in Germany who didn't follow any of those reforms, not to mention that you have German-speaking newspapers in Switzerland and Austria who will have different rules regarding grammar and spelling (and yes, these countries officially worked together on that first reform, but again, it wasn't binding to everyone).
My pet peeves are :
1) when the whole mission consists of only hidden/ obscure ways around. I don't mind hidden paths, but if the whole level consists of me trying to find that one rain pipe I may climb, it gets irritating
2) mandatory no-ko/ ghosting-only goals. Especially so, if there is no in-game explanation for it. That's what optional goals are for. I actually don't mind it, if there is a good explanation for it and if it doesn't become frustrating (see nr.4)
3) switches that are hidden just to annoy me. And I know, in-game itwould make sense for it, but with the limitations of the engine, it gets annoying. I'm not going to pick up every goblet/ bottle, just because there is one that acts like a switch. Or that one wall panel in one mission that you couldn't recognize as a switch even when you directly looked at it, unless you happened to highlight it. Becomes doubly annoying if it is a mission critical objective (if it is a secret I don't mind that much, that's why it is a secret)
4) ridiculous amounts of guards everywhere. regardless of difficulty level. Just to make it even more "difficult". This seems to not happen that often these days , but was very "prevalent" in many early missions (but then again, back then I used to enjoy blackjacking everyone)
