When the author do not add a simple compass :(
Hm...
I think that someone could write a fan mission with an objective calling: "My compass was stolen. I have to find a new one."
Would you not be a fan of such a fan mission? Especially when it's a labyrinth mission, hehe!

The thing that kills the mood for me is when it's super easy to climb or rope outside of the playable area.
Obviously in large or complex missions it's easy to overlook things, and authors can't always account for persistent or clever players who go out of their way to get to hard-to-reach places. But I've played more than a few missions where climbing out of the map and into the skybox is trivially easy, the ways being pretty obvious even if I'm not looking for them.

You'd probably be a good betatester for that then. I have a couple missions where it didn't occur to me or betatesters to even try, and then when someone posted about it after release, I went back, and wondered how I didn't see it....

all the people harping on vincent ,leave him alone he has the right to have his view
this board is about posting what you dont like about a fan mission, not to criticize what someone says
and to be on topic ,having a dewdrop on a fan mission that is not frobable is terrible, and rarly do you see a author put healing fruit on vines where they should grow, not on the ground

What is the backstory about that doll? I see it in almost every FM but still haven't figured out the reason. Is that some kind of DromEd joke?

Bear in mind as well that mantling became easier in New Dark. There are older missions that you can now easily escape the map where you wouldn't have been able to upon release.

Oh, that's a point I hadn't considered! I'm not really knowledgeable about the history of Thief from that point of view. Apparently New Dark is from 2012, and I never played Thief until a year later, which would explain a lot.

Yes. My testers were always good at figuring out the ways players can get outside the play zone and trained me to avoid using wood near the outskirts of a mission. That said, players are creative and often still find ways to get outside the mission (stacking crates, climbing on lamp poles, etc.). I think it is the challenge that motivates some players. On the other hand, I do admire those players. :)
