I'm willing to give the game a chance as a game on its own, I know it won't compare to the originals, so I've given up on that front. It seems the story will be generic, and the writing terrible, but I'll just ignore those aspects. It looks like it'll be okay as a stealth game. I'm still pretty skeptical, I'd like a demo of some kind.
About the only thing that actually angers me is the pre-order exclusive content, that shit is a plague on the industry. I know their motivations are to make money during the first few weeks of sale, but what about preservation of culture?

I'm not saying anything, I'm just saying. I'll try the game for free, and if it's worth the standard 40€ price tag, then I'll pay 40€ for it. -For the game, and the extra content they took out of it and were trying to sell for extra cash. I did the same with DXHR. I got what I wanted, and Square got what was coming to them.
It's funny how these publishers are trying to extract extra cash from these products by dividing them into smaller bits and charging extra, when the game would actually be worth the extra if it actually was an all-around genuine improvement on its source material. If Thief 4 was Thief except with more and better stuff, it would be worth the 40+€ that they are asking for the full product.
Consider how Square is continuing the same malicious business practice, when comparing Thief 4 to DXHR. The pre-order exclusive content in DXHR comprised of the only mission that included a character that appears in every installment of the series. Tracer Tong learned from Adam Jensen what he later told to JC Denton.
"The more power you think you have, the more quickly it slips from your hands." -That was an important small part that connected the game to the rest of the series, and Square tried to hold it hostage in exchange for blind investment or extra ransom. Now, Thief 4 is going to have a bank heist mission as a pre-order exclusive. The one thing that fans of the Thief series would really be looking forward to in Thief 4, and the publisher wants to extort the fans by taking out that part of the game and forcing them to purchase blindly, or to pay extra when making an educated investment. I think I'm being overly generous when I'm offering to pay the standard price, when I'd rather have them learn the hard way by making 100% loss when trying to scheme their way into profit selling a product they apparently have zero confidence for.

I was hugely disappointed by Thief Deadly Shadows, mainly because of the restricted blackjack ability by Garrett (hope they fixed this) -among other things already mentioned of course.
Now I'm not much of a gamer, besides Thief there have been few games that have really caught my interest to invest time in over the years.
But I honestly think Thief 4 could be great, graphically it looks plain amazing and the atmosphere seems right in respect to the original Thief legacy. I understand there will always be a huge resistance to a come-back of something legendary, it's the same with once great rockbands bringing out a new cd after more than a decade. I however think some of the negativity towards the release has no solid basis, imo it's great we get a new Thief experience and I'm really looking forward to it.

...Huh. I thought it was one of T:
DS's few improvements. Toe-blackjacking and the like were dumb.

He's probably referring to having to be in 'the blackjack zone' with the auto arm raise.

While I'm not 100% happy with how it's done in T4 it looks like it's more likely to bring you into the zone than let you swing your blackjack pointlessly and alert the target like in TDS. Once you get close to&behind the guard and press swing you auto-jack them. Slightly better.

My thoughts exactly. Only concerns I have right now is how well my current PC can deal with the graphics.

Honestly the whole "blatant dishonor ripoff" is going to kill any sense of atmosphere for me. I mean it was decent until the begger queen which reminded me of character I ran into in dishonored who was a crazy lady who was a former queen. It's just an uneasy feeling that's like "They're just jumping on the bandwagon" which would ruin it for me.

Deadly Shadows tried to make a system that was flawed in its inception compared to the original. It tried to syncronize the target and the weapon animations, but the system was unreliable, and also sacrificed player freedom. Automatic takedown without aiming and attacking might be a functioning version of what TDS did, but it still is inferior to selecting a weapon, aiming and attacking. It seems that Eidos Montréal is actively trying to avoid actually updating the most functioning mechanics of the series to the modern level of technology. Instead they are merely trying to create a visual impression of that with gameplay that is compromised to make all that challenging visualization extremely easy. I don't think there is a single thing in Thief 4, where EM has actually tried to preserve everything good about a feature while polishing its visuals.
I think someone should implement body awareness in The Dark Mod without a single compromise being done in gameplay or controls, just to show EM how things should be done. Never break something to make it look better. If you can't make it look perfect while still maintaining full functionality, then pretty good is good enough. Because you have just accomplished in creating a genuine, objectively inarguable improvement.

That's exactly what I was referring to, rather have the freedom of having my blackjack raised awaiting a guard patiently when i want to, seems more realistic also. toe-blackjacking lol I should try that
