I voted for "it looks pretty good". The recent updates have been quite promising and I feel that this will turn out to be a fun game after all. Of course there are still certain things that bother me, and I don't think that Thief 4 will be an timeless classic like Thief 1 & 2 were/are, but then again I probably would have forgotten those two a long time ago too if Dromed didn't exist, so it's not the best comparison.

I think we've got some Eidos viral marketers in here. (I like that you guys didn't pick the most positive answer, that would have been too obvious wouldn't it?)
You'd be jealous if you knew how much they're paying us for posting these half-assed and semi-positive thoughts, just like mine above. It makes me wonder how much Eidos's competitors are paying for their agents (over here at Eidos HQ we call them Negative Billys) though... Is it really worth it? Join us...

Fair enough, but I still would expect less positivity, especially here. Even the mainstream press is pretty pessimistic towards this game, yet a poll on TTLG is showing 41% positive answers? It's a little bit unexpected even when you break it down the way you just did.
Seriously though, what's so surprising about that? I don't know about you, but I suspect that many of us here on TTLG enjoy all sorts of games, not just Thief. I've enjoyed all three Thief games so far, I think they're all pretty fun, and I like(d) making missions for them. But I'm not really obsessed about them either; I've never
studied the Thief lore and I don't cite any Hammerite or Pagan quotes in real life conversations, and I believe that all three Thief games so far have their fair share of flaws as well, so I wouldn't put them on some pedestal above all other games.
Thief 4
will be much different from the previous ones, but not
all changes are going to be for worse (although many of them probably will...), at least I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of a Thief experience they're coming up with. Is it just so hard for you to understand that some people may simply be excited/happy/curious to see a new, potentially fun Thief game after almost a decade? :p

I'm afraid I disagree. There's always something to argue about, and it is fun trying to tell someone their subjective assessment of something is wrong.
The problem with arguing is that it's a very simplistic form of communication where the goal is not a greater understanding of the issue, but simply defeating an opponent. I'm much more interested in discussion and analysis, but, ironically, that's rarely possible on a forum. Furthermore, you tend to run into a host of other problems such as the fallacy fallacy and people getting needlessly personal.

how good "pretty good" is, is determined by the inflection of the speaker's voice or the context of their entire statement. In this case, the answers are clearly in order of most good to least good. However, the intent of the people that voted for that choice and whether they interpreted it that way is another matter entirely.
Yeah, good point. You can't make the sort of inferences I made before.

Some of the recent changes have been for the better, but if the writing is as abysmal as is indicated by the trailers, there's no saving this. It's *painful* to listen to, so I went with the capslocked personal torment option.

We'll be playing (well, some of us) the new game two months from today - can't wait for the impending shitstorm. ;)
(oh btw Merry Xmas)

I voted it looks bad for a Thief game with the graphics and art style saving it from a lower score. Seeing that this a reboot and not a direct continuation in any way, it is obviously inferior as a Thief game compared to one that could have been made that built upon the existing world LGS created with the lore intact and natural advancements in the freedom of movement, sound, and game mechanics with today's technology is it not?
Had this been a game I enjoyed but wasn't too invested in most of the changes would have been fine, so in that regard I can completely understand where some of you are coming from. I really enjoyed Morrowind and the earlier games but accepted the simplicity of Oblivion and Skyrim with little backlash felt. Thief is #1 on my list so I am more invested in it and enjoy it for very specific reasons that have been removed in the new game (free leaning, jumping, the lore, Garrett played by Stephen Russell ect).

sure there are some things like the new voice + that eidos completely removed the "creepy" stuff that bother me
but the only thing i really dont like is that they got rid of jumping :/
totally looking forward to play around with new gadgets besindes the classic arrows and smoke bombs
i even like fokus .. after all garrett got a mechanicial eye .. why not improve this gadget too ;)
most important is that there is alot of sneaking around in shadows and stealth gameplay
the gameplay vids looked awesome on that score so far :)
still pumped for the game :) and preordered it
at the end of the day i think its gonna be an awesome approach to bring this franchise back
(hopefully it sells well enough so that there will be more thief games in the future)

I had to check, so forgive me, but your post in combination with your curiously recent registration date made you look exactly like the kind of desperate guerrilla marketing spam that some publishers of bad games do on /v/ on occasion. At first it looked like it ticked way too many boxes.
