When you've got that many options, you basically have to group them in analysis to make any sense out of them. For instance, "pretty good" may be the most frequently chosen option, but it got there mostly by cannibalizing "good" rather than by overwhelming negative responses. So, you could group positive (24), negative (27) and neither (7), which shows a slightly more negative overall, but neither positive nor negative having a majority.
And honestly, all those "pretty good"s aren't going to be all that invested in arguing with all the doomspeakers around here.

Fair enough, but I still would expect less positivity, especially here. Even the mainstream press is pretty pessimistic towards this game, yet a poll on TTLG is showing 41% positive answers? It's a little bit unexpected even when you break it down the way you just did.

The results are not really surprising. The graphics look on par with modern games and the game seems functional. The only thing that people can gripe about is what they have seen of the writing, art direction and game mechanics.
However, when there was a poll to judge it as a Thief game, the results were pretty different: (

So I think we're getting some imprecise data, but I'd also like to just come right out and call foul play as well. I think we've got some Eidos viral marketers in here. (I like that you guys didn't pick the most positive answer, that would have been too obvious wouldn't it?)
No we haven't.

I don't know why you think that there would be
less people on TTLG than in the mainstream who'd be into this new game. Regardless of how true to the original it is, it's still a first person stealth game in a steampunk setting, which is something that a lot of people here are clearly into. We're still the target audience. So to many, especially those of us who are not allergic to modern gaming concepts like contextual controls, this new game is looking pretty good.

Have you verified the identity of all 59 voters? (I thought only full admins could do that?) I would sleep a lot easier at night knowing everything is legit here.

I guess I don't fully understand the demographic of the forums. All these silent defenders should come out more often. We could be having so much better arguments.

Nickie does a heck of a lot more here than just act as a moderator but I can also confirm that there's nothing dodgy going on in the poll. I would imagine wanting to avoid arguments is precisely why some people are "silent defenders".

The most popular positive response is more cautious than the most popular negative response. That may be an indication that positive people are less likely to jump with guns blazing into any arguments around here.

I've seen peeps white knight this game and then 180 and then 180 again. In the end I think a lot of people are glad to have a new Thief game instead of nothing. Alternatively, there are some who believe there are grievous design choices that cannot be ignored. The spectrum is broad. At any rate, I think the poll is blatantly skewed and biased. The poll options are clearly designed to project a positive opinion.

HOW DARE THEY TORMENT ME PERSONALLY THIS IS THE MOST HORRIBLE LOOKING THING I'VE EVER SEEN
Why else would there be a hyperbolic option like this, in ALL CAPS, if not to paint those who dislike the game as frothy purists. :tsktsk:

Unless the votes changed significantly in under two hours, this is patently false.
