There was meant to be, though. You can see some of the leftover objects and the train car has moving terrain properties on it.

Well, it is the same assembly that's used later as a tram on the VB command deck after all.

The earth level itself was originally meant to be much larger, wasn't it? Maybe the tram was supposed to take you through some of the parts that were cut. That would have been pretty cool, so long as it wasn't as annoyingly long as Half-Life's is.

You start in one, which you immediately leave.
Yeah, that's what I meant with intro. ;)
Back then I was new to PC's (I got my first one in '98) and have seen Halflife only on a friends PC. Therefore, I thought it was just one of those clones.

There's actually quite a bit of unused geometry sealed off in the Earth map, but it's all at the street level. Besides, the point of Half-Life's tram ride was to give the player an idea how huge the Black Mesa facility was. A long tram ride in SS2 on Earth would have been fairly pointless (and quite obviously derivative).
The training booths were directly inspired by HL's hazard course though.

I'm not convinced that the tram was meant to ridable on earth either- likely it's set up as an elevator because otherwise the pathfinding db won't compile properly and that's the simplest way to get a walk-on-able tram. No conclusive evidence either way though.

That first part kind of reminded me an old game I played on a mac, it was amazing and I never saw anything like that a that time. It was Spaceship Warlock.

Ah. Guess not, then.

Right. And it did it's job well. I just wish it was skippable so I didn't have to sit through it every time I start a new game.

Really? Didn't know that.

I'm just finishing my 1st time with ss2,('cept I never get to meet Shodan, just languish at the bottom of the tunnel in pitch darkness?),and am wondering about ss1.
Do you think I'll enjoy it having already played ss2?
"......Clear Sky. I'm just crossing my fingers regarding Call of Pripyat, hoping that it can be more like the first game."
First reports sounds good, though matching SOC is some task.
I only really got into ss2 while waiting for Pripyat, but am very glad I did!
Now I've played ss2,am I a nerd now?
Do I need to fish out my dark rimmed glasses and buy an anorak?
:joke:

I did. Whether or not you enjoy it will depend on factors other than whether or not you've played SS2, so I would give it a shot.
