Fair enough, I've never upgraded an AK, but other guns I've taken back to him he's been unable to upgrade. Normally I stick with my tricked out Viper 5 from the swamp until I get a TRs then I switch to that.

Not good enough. :p If they only did this once, I'd definitely give them all my money. . . which at that point would be very very little. ;)

I'm not 100% sure, but I think they vary from tech to tech. And the prices also depend on your status.
This could be good ground for making a per-tech price chart. It would be pretty big, but at least give an idea of what tech is best for what purpose.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure he upgrades AK.
I don't know about AK, but he wasn't able to upgrade my obokan.

It's in the open wooden box at the top AFAIR, and the watch tower actually is on the way from the "fishermen village" to the church. Also, if you're scarce of ammo, don't neglect to look in the blue containers and wooden boxes you encounter; unlike SoC, in CS they're often filled with ammo, I never paid for it.
Got it. That tower I visited while running from place to place to help fight the Renegade, I'll stop by on my way to Clear Sky base and find that scope.
And I know about the wooden boxes, I've hit the jackpot once or twice.

There are 7 or 8 artifacts at the Swamps, AFAIR they aren't too useful (but profitable if you're low on money). You'll find first anti-bleeding and life regeneration artifacts in the Agroprom or Dark Valley. The game will become much more easy after that.
I bet. Due to the common appearance of bandages in SoC, anti-bleeding artifacts weren't too useful, to me at least. But in this game I'm really struggling, and practically every bullet that hits me causes bleeding that needs 2 - 3 bandages to get rid of. :erg:

The numbers still are percentages ;)
Oh. . .
In that case the kevlar upgrade is even more worthless on the bandit jacket than I thought.

I'll add to driver's post that the icons represent 4 possible effects of anomaly fields. They can either irradiate, burn, chemical burn, or electroshock you. The icons are designed just to warn you about what type of hazard(s) you're dealing with, the icons are active while the effects affect you. You may want to equip yourself with appropriate anti-effect artifact(s) if you need to enter a field, it certainly helps.
Thanks for the explanations guys, I hadn't noticed the bar that shows how much I'm affected. I just thought it was like in SoC, green represents light radiation, yellow is medium, etc.
Since most artifacts are located in anomaly fields, grabbing the first ones is going to be a challenge to say the least.

Even if the prices differ as I currently think, they differ not that much. Plus, with 1.5.05 money shouldn't be a big problem, still it's harder to accumulate than in SoC. It's only in the beginning you may have hardships with that, and perhaps if you choose to not participate in faction wars at all.

Yes, but AK is a different matter.

I know what you're talking about pretty well. The anti-bleeding artifacts are tons more useful now.

Well, I guess yes, you shoudn't upgrade it. My suggestion is to get a Zoria for the start, then get yourself a SEVA ASAP and upgrade it fully (choose to upgrade night vision to lvl.2 even for the cost of anti-radiation or anti-chemical bonuses, it's much more useful in CS), definitely the best suit until the point of no return, i.e. Limansk. After the point of no return an Exoskeleton is the best I think. (I'm now in Limansk with fully upgraded Exoskeleton, FN F2000, Dragunov, and PKM - the machine gun . The Exo allows to carry up to 110 kgs now, but you still can't sprint in it, which makes it inappropriate for most of the game).
Bjossi on 10/10/2008 at 12:31
I dream about that F2000, it was my favorite weapon in SoC. A shame it didn't appear until in the NPP (or should I say on the NPP?)
Anyway, my journey to the Swamps and Clear Sky base was successful beyond my expectations. Got that AK upgraded and repaired, found the scope up in the tower, collected my reward and sold lots of guns and other stuff after I took out a camp of bandits at a house near the transition point to Cordon.
I couldn't believe how good the new AK was. I took out 6 bandits with a single clip from a distance, and it wasn't even at full 30 to begin with.
EDIT
-----
I don't know how I did it, but on my own I kicked the bandits' asses in the Gabarge. I have taken out the entire base and killed off a few reinforcement groups. Their faction strength is around 50 now, and dropping fast if they keep this up.
I don't know if I can get rid of them for good, but this at least makes things quite a bit easier; having collected fuckloads of ammo, health and other items.
Oh, and I got some more to report.
7) Sometimes when I die and then reload, I am dead when the savegame is loaded. Then few moments later the game crashes.
8) Weather does not like saving/loading, it justs seems to jump around. Sometimes a blowout makes some noise when I load, sometimes it is cloudy when I saved in sunny weather. And so on. This is not too bad but still annoys me a bit since I get my best kills in sunlight and night time.

Sorry for the thread necromancy, but after a long break I started playing Clear Sky again and have encountered a few more bugs that I find very annoying. I'm using the latest patch btw.
* I'm not sure if this is a part of the game, but when I was chasing after Strelok in Red Forest and got ambushed, few moments later all the guys suddenly became my buddies. This reoccurred several times when I reloaded savegame. I had more weird stuff happening there too, like the ambushers being marked as red but still didn't shoot even if I stood right in front of them. Overall I think this scene is buggy as hell.
* For some reason the game seems to crash if I attempt to load a savegame after getting killed by a bloodsucker. This happened twice in a row, good thing those bastards aren't too hard to kill.
* My pump-shotgun refuses to change ammo type. I press the default key 'Y' and nothing happens. However if I switch to my AK, it'll switch ammo types just fine. This is fucking annoying because I'm stuck with using slugs and got hundreds of pellet shots stacked both in my inventory and in various storage boxes.
* Monolith corpses vanish very quickly at the "border control" in Military Warehouses. It is like right after the fight is over all the bodies just disappear, leaving plenty of guns around. The guns are better than nothing but I'd want some health, ammo and food for my efforts.
* The "random" blowouts need serious work. The only times they ever happen for me is right after loading a savegame or a new level. If they happen at an unfortunate time I can just reload the save and I'll skip them. Why wasn't this coded the same way as the day progression? That way the blowouts would happen regardless of your actions, the game simply generates a random number of seconds and saves its current value to savegames.
Maybe I'll encounter more bugs/annoyances sooner than later, I'm about to enter the area that will be Freedom's base in SoC.

The shotgun thing is because one of its modifications prevents it from loading buckshot, but the fact it does that isn't always documented (i think there's multiple instances of the upgrade and some have an incomplete description)
There's a lot of things like that especially with armor, like the 'thickener' upgrades that say they improve bullet resistance but they boost impact/slash resistance instead.
And yeah the new blowouts are so bad they're funny, should have taken a cue from AMK and the like, better blowouts in mechanics, sound, visuals, everything.
Definitely need a proper mod thing for CS, right now it's mostly stuff that's on the verge of cheating.

I was careful with upgrading my weaponry, like making sure I didn't kill compatibility with the most common shotgun ammo type, but seems like the game decided that for me. :erg:
But I do remember one time when I was unable to reload the shotgun with buckshot, I simply emptied it, threw away all slugs and then it started loading buckshot ammo. Too bad this doesn't work anymore.

unload the shotgun, draw out the empty gun, change ammo before it reloads.should work now..

Meh, didn't work. Either I did it wrong or the tech dudes forgot to inform me of buckshot incompatibilities with an upgrade or two. . .
Btw, I just finished the 'lower the bridge to Limansk' part of the game and I gotta say that it was very frustrating. So many bandits and when it was all over there were only guns to pick up and a body or two (the other dozens of them vanished).
I've been facing this problem very often lately (bodies disappearing ridiculously quickly), first by the monolith border in Military Warehouses, then in Freedom's future base and now by the bridge to Limansk.
Also, I witnessed weird AI in the future Freedom base. The building where the Freedom leader in SoC hung out was full of bad guys, but they didn't seem all that eager to shoot at me. Some guys stood by windows and got angry, but when they ran out to hunt me down they just ran around the area like they couldn't see me. I could just take them out one by one.
This game needs serious work, I have to admit that. :erg:

Ok, figured out what was up with my shotgun. Turns out a +20% accuracy upgrade kills buckshot compatibility. So watch out for that upgrade. ;)
