The problem is beyond sneaking. AI sees and hears like superman. I'd really, really like it if they would make it so enemies couldn't aim perfectly through reeds so thick you can't even see through them.
Doubt that will happen though.
As for the save/load, there doesn't seem to be the awareness problem. but there are others. I've had times where saving/loading cause someone to suddenly appear where they were missing before. And the minimap dots all have a tendency to be forgotten when you save/load, and not come back. I'm not even sure that squad ID and goals come through saves - I suspect that's a big part of the problem with faction wars.

Are you sure? It was a big problem for me in SoC, but now after about 30 or 40 hrs into CS I'm pretty sure it's fixed, I even was surprised. I got the impression that enemies don't magically know where I am if they can't see me, and even if they can, they don't immediately notice me as it was in SoC. At the very least, radius of their awareness after you load the game was considerably lessened if compared with SoC - that's for sure. Plus it seems to me they can't hear you now, so you don't need to avoid bushes when approach them, I may be wrong about the latter though.
I made a successful attack at the bad guys where I had to grab a case for Sidorovich. Hid in the bushes and could take them out one by one and they didn't know what hit them. But that is only half a victory; as a test I hid in a bush when they were unaware of me and saved, but after loading they were all looking for me. . .

Armours don't just lay around anymore. But be sure, you'll find many of them later in the game as rewards or traded items. The first good one you can get as a reward at Clear Sky camp after you help to take over the Renegades base. Start of the game is pretty hard, yes. The situation will change after you get a good armour, upgrade it, and equip yourself with artifacts like Mama's Beads and Kolobok - anti-bleeding and health regeneration, you'll find them MUCH more useful than in SoC.
The artifacts will be a problem. I can't afford keeping my eyes on the detector whenever I run around. Just a simple sound when it detects something would be a lifesaver. Dunno if you guys can see the HUD elements and the main display at the same time, but I can't. :erg:

It was exactly my impression in the Swamps, yes. Later in the game, or may be it was because I got more powerful weapons (and upgraded them), I couldn't notice a difference compared with as it was in SoC.
You lost the comparison when the guns got more powerful. Remember that early in the game the bad guys have nothing fancier than shotguns or viper 5s, and they are bloody accurate despite being pretty worn out and not upgraded to boot.

After I killed all the bandits at the car park they wouldn't come to there anymore. AFAIK, they regenerate at their base - the depot, and may try to recapture the park if they aren't conquered or their number in the garbage isn't lessened enough. Did you join Loners or not? I wrote about how to beat bandits once and for all in other thread. However, when you join Loners, the Bandits become your enemies and you obviously won't be able to do quests for them. There is a way to make them neutral again even if you joined Loners,
if you didn't kill too many of them, - you may join Freedom and Bandits will become neutral again. But you'll get an opportunity to join Freedom, as well as Bandits or Duty, only after you get the objective "Talk to Sakharov".
Regarding the car park bandits, maybe I just missed those extra "copies" earlier. I'll see if killing them will stop the flow for a while.
And I haven't joined the Loners, no. I'm still not a part of any faction officially. Joining the bandits is a lost cause I imagine, when I was robbed at gunpoint I got a little irritated and, well, made the guns do the talking. :o

Artifacts are always found in anomaly fields, so typically you can just whip it out when you're near one.

You just need to look at it periodically when you're looking for artifacts. Its reach is large enough. And what's more important, - places where an artifact is going to be are pretty much determinable from plain visual observation of your surroundings. Almost in all cases, the artifacts are located in anomaly fields, and they're quite noticeable, you'll not miss them if you'll explore maps. I have a formidable collection already consisting of 15-25 artifacts. They're not only more useful than in SoC, but also more high-priced.

Maybe the game considers a weapon fully upgraded if it's held by an enemy, since they can't upgrade it.

It won't necessarily help, because the Bandits WILL respawn in their headquarters (the Depot) and may decide to recapture the Park, until you join Loners
and your comrades fix the camp in the Depot. Bandits can be restrained and pretty much locked up in their base by Duty or Loners without your help. But the base won't be captured, and more importantly occupied (the condition for cease of the respawn), if you're not a Loner. And the occupation isn't that easy to accomplish.

AFAIK, you need to kill 20-30 people to make all faction hostile. Check the map or faction's status, if bandits in the Depot are yellow you'll be able to do quest for them.

Bandits are all angry at me, at the base as well as outside.
I really really need a weapon with a scope or at least something accurate at medium/long distances, and needs to use commonly found ammo of course. At this point I have collected some stuff and sold to the trader in the stalker camp near the fallen bridge in Cordon and got myself a little over 11,000. What would be the most cost-effective way to get decent firepower at this point? I got in my inventory an IL86, Viper 5 and AK47 (the slightly weaker version); all in good shape.
I plan to go back to Clear Sky base and collect my reward, from my experience, using jackets for protection is nonsensical after one enters the Garbage area. Combine that with lack of a decent weapon for medium/long range and you got yourself a nice formula for getting pwned.

That's not good, you should have done quests for them first, plus now you'll have hard time in the Garbage. If Bandits are already enemies, you may want to join Stalkers, it won't worsen the situation and you'll get some useful items and money bonus for joining them. Freedom and Duty will remain neutrals, but Loners will start to attack Bandits. To get hints how to eliminate bandits once and for all check my posts in the other thread.

Upgrade AK. Did you find a scope for AK in the Swamps? One is on the top of the watch tower near CS base. The mechanic of the Loners can upgrade AK. Add the scope's fixture and attach the scope. Also, upgrade AK's flatness (it increases damage) and accuracy, even if rate of fire will become slower.

Good armours for the start are CS suit (you're rewarded with it if you participated in capturing the Renegades base) and Zoria (don't know how it's called in English, it looks exactly like Stalker's suit in SoC). But until you find an anti-bleeding and life regeneration artifacts you can't really feel yourself protected enough.

But...but, they took all my money at the start of Garbage! :(

Ah, thanks for that info. In my save I stand right next to a tech guy in the stalker base in Cordon. Do their prices vary or doesn't it matter which guy I ask for the upgrades?
And no, never found a scope. But I remember that tower, it is hard to miss in such a flatland like the Swamps. I did go up there but didn't find anything of value, guess I should look more closely. :o

Perhaps I should start scouting for artifacts then, starting at the Swamps.
By the way, how does the new CS stats system work anyway? Like the stats for armors are only numbers, they were simple percentages in SoC. :erm: And I'm also confused by the little grey icons near the health & armor bars. When I get irradiated I see the sign glow for a moment but then nothing more, how am I supposed to know how irradiated I am?
driver on 9/10/2008 at 21:50
I think the Stalker tech in Cordon can only upgrade pistols and shotguns, you'll have to speak with the Duty or Freedom techs to upgrade your AK.
As for radiation, the large metre in the bottom right shows how dangerous the area you are in is and how radiated you have become. The further to the right the needle, the hotter the area. A red bar will appear under the needle to show how badly you've been effected by the radiation. If you've good anti radiation protection, the needle can go quite high before you start getting effected. Once you're iradiated you'll have to use vodka, anti-rad drugs or artifacts to remove the radiation from your system.
The icons above the metre show different types of hazards. Skull for toxins/chemicals, the eye is for psi and a flame for fire (The rad symbol is pretty self-explanitory).

I'm not 100% sure, but I think they vary from tech to tech. And the prices also depend on your status.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure he upgrades AK.

It's in the open wooden box at the top AFAIR, and the watch tower actually is on the way from the "fishermen village" to the church. Also, if you're scarce of ammo, don't neglect to look in the blue containers and wooden boxes you encounter; unlike SoC, in CS they're often filled with ammo, I never paid for it.

There are 7 or 8 artifacts at the Swamps, AFAIR they aren't too useful (but profitable if you're low on money). You'll find first anti-bleeding and life regeneration artifacts in the Agroprom or Dark Valley. The game will become much more easy after that.

The numbers still are percentages ;)

I'll add to driver's post that the icons represent 4 possible effects of anomaly fields. They can either irradiate, burn, chemical burn, or electroshock you. The icons are designed just to warn you about what type of hazard(s) you're dealing with, the icons are active while the effects affect you. You may want to equip yourself with appropriate anti-effect artifact(s) if you need to enter a field, it certainly helps.

The clear Sky tech can upgrade AKs, I believe. Typically I go back to him.
