The fact that you can collect Zyme and sell it to a dealer in Paris was neat. I also liked the fact that many civilians carried money, so you had to decide whether or not you would kill/K.O. innocent people just to steal their wallets. I still love giving that first little kid you see in the second mission some food in exchange for the code and then blowing his little butt away so I can get my food back. That is such a nice touch.

Spoilers ahead!
Dormcat: The problem is, talking to Everett doesn't always come to mind. I know, when I found the dead mechanic, I was like "WTF! The other guy is a fraud! I bet there's a bomb on the heli!" So I went to Jock.
Me: "Jock, Jock, there's a dead mechanic!"
Jock: "Can we fly now?"
Me: "I think the other one is a false one! He might have trapped the copter!"
Jock: " Ready to go?"
Me: (:weird:) "You DO understand what a bomb is, right?"
Jock "Let's go!"
Me: "I bet we'll explode in the air."
Jock: "Can we go now?"
Me: "Boom. The end."
Jock: "Ready, JC?"
Me: "Okaaay..."
At that time, I thought it was one of those "I know what's going to happen, but I can't change it"-things, like you know from pretty early on that you'll join the NSF at some time, still you have to work against them.

I'm not sure if you know this Naartjie, but Paul's death is triggered if you leave via his Bedroom window rather than the front door.
Aww, shit :p So after totally cleaning house on the 'ton, Paul's killed by my hopping out of his bedroom window. Bugger :)

RE Paul and the 'Ton, I found that even though I hadn't killed absolutely everyone in the hotel (there were the two near the ATM's/Public Access terminals), when Paul and JC had cleared the bottom level, I got a short conversation with Paul, where he said words to the effect "go to hong kong, I'll get smuggler to help me leave NY". He then exited stage left, while I proceeded to paint the rest of Hell's Kitchen red with UNATCO blood. I didn't test the theory that you couldn't leave by the bedroom window, but it would be interesting to know if simply having Paul initiate this conversation sets a flag in the game (PaulDentonmale=safe, :)), without having to kill all the other troopers in the ton, or exiting by the front doors and not the window. Anyone who's played around with the editor know the answer to this ?

Great stuff you guys have been sayin.
Yo whoever started this thread... If you talk to the lady who let you into the lucky money, she says "go call a russian sailor a nasty name. I want to see you fight."
I thought this triggered something that would allow the sailors to start a fight with me, but it didnt. Oh well. It wouldve been fun to sPEEL their blood all over the top floor.

You can kill the Russian sailors in the Lucky Money anyway if you like. That is one of the things I loved about Deus Ex. You had the freedom to kill as many innocent people as you wanted with almost no bad side effects (which is the way it would really be since the only people that would know what you did would be the witnesses and I always kill them too). Every time I go to the Lucky Money, I kill the Door girl (the one that charges you to get in) since she has 900 credits on her. But, then again, I also kill Mercedes (100 credits and 2 lockpicks), Tessa (2 lockpicks), Mamasan (100 credits), Thug in restroom (100 credits), and the Girl in the restroom since she has a zyme vial you can sell in Paris.

Sigh. You rookies! Guess you haven't heard of non-lethal takedown, huh?;)
Naartjie on 26/4/2003 at 21:17
All my precision and care in not lethally harming a single NSF soldier went out of the windor when I encountered MJ12 troops. I was like a second Rambo reborn after that point. Every level was a butchery....

I know what you mean Naartlie - I started out non-lethal (being a long-time taffer), and carefully tranquilised, prodded, gassed or avoided every NSF on Liberty Is. Being the careful taffer I am, it took me two hours or so, and then when I talked to the first UNATCO trooper, he told me they had killed all the other terrorists - I was so pissed off that I had been that careful, and there was still a bloodbath at the house of death scene on the ground. I then spent a good three hours tranquilising and prodding and gassing UNATCO headquarters for being such bloody minded arsholes...do you think I was a little ahead of the plot ?
I changed my mind in the tunnels under Hell's Kitchen though - it was the charge of the assault rifle...
tomi1kenobi on 27/4/2003 at 03:53
Well, you should've stunned all the NSF guys there before getting to meet the big boss. Why leave perfectly good stuff behind? Anyway, there are inconsistencies: I didn't kill anyone until in VersaLife, but still UNATCO trooper said the cleared the bodies or something. What bodies? Also, Manderley talked something about terrorists I'd killed with my very own hands at La Guardia that night, when I definitely did not kill anyone. Big deal; I did the job way I wanted and if Manderley didn't quite get it, that's he's problem;)
As for zooging everyone around; fine with me. Personally though, if I want to go in guns blazing, I pick something else, like AvP GE/AvP2, Hidden & Dangerous, or Dark Forces-> Jedi Outcast. Or Il-2. DX is for me the story, the development of the character and the plot. I like to have games that are 'something else', a breed on their own, if you like. So, DX is the thinking mans game, AvP when you want to fight for your very life etc, Dark Forces 'series' SW adventure etc. I dunno exactly where Thiefs fall. Remains to be seen;) But hey, no offense meant with that remark about rookies or anything, OK? Just different strokes for different folks,eh?
