I watched the last episode of The Grand Tour last night. I really didn't want watch it though knowing that it's the end of an era for that genre of television. Anyone who has been a long time watcher of the show might have noticed that Hammond drove a Ford Capri like Angela Rippon did on the very first Top Gear show in 1977. It was a different model year though.

Challengers surely is the best entry in the ‘movies about tennis where beautiful rich people are being horrible to each other’ subgenre since Match Point.
Also, Alien: Romulus is well worth your time if you’re a fan of the franchise. I had a blast with it at the cinema. Could have done without some fan service lines of dialogue but that’s the only real negative thing I can say about it.

Slow Horses is so good, I wasn't expecting it to be excellent right from minute one. Snappy writing, great performances, and fun plots following a bunch of MI5 losers tangled up in machinations that throw them out of their depth at an office for hopeless exiles, with an incredibly acerbic boss played by a doughy Gary Oldman whose superpower is mincing absolutely everyone he comes in contact with when he opens his mouth. I've always loved Oldman in everything he's done, but this is a standout role in a show that's superbly crafted and a joy to watch.

What if you're only a fan of the original series? I disliked Prometheus so strongly that I skipped Covenant. Is Romulus good enough for a no-longer-fan to give it another try, or wait for streaming?

This movie is for people like me whose favorite Alien movie is the original Alien. Aliens is great too but I prefer the horror angle of Alien. My memory is a bit hazy because I was kind of overwhelmed by the spectacle but IIRC it even sort of retcons the alien origin story with those white skinned people introduced by Prometheus. Romulus is very much a visceral thrill ride (after a slow start to set the mood and build up the story like Alien also had), not an attempt at anything resembling a profound message like Prometheus and Covenant were. None of the vagueness and deliberate obtuseness of a Damon Lindelof written movie like Prometheus.

Or the stupidity, I hope. Lindelof does amazing work in a TV show format (The Leftovers is one of the greatest shows of all time), but Prometheus had unlikable characters doing moronic things, asked uninteresting questions, provided unsurprising answers, and even managed to retroactively warp Alien's mysteriousness into something profoundly disappointing. I hear Romulus is a pretty decent time until the final third, which is at least a better showing than either Prometheus or Covenant.

This weekend, I watched the latest production featuring Nicole Kidman, titled The Perfect Couple. It's a great mini-series—a thriller with intense suspense and plenty of plot twists. What seems obvious at first glance turns out not to be. The director keeps you on edge until the very end. I highly recommend it.

I quite enjoyed Operation Mincemeat.
But right now, I'm into Outlast, the survival reality TV show. Saw the second season which was interesting and gone back to the first season, which looks to be far less taxing with a lot more arseholes. Not sure I'm going to like this as much.

I couldn't sleep last night, so I ended up watching (
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089869/) The Quiet Earth. It's a low budget 1985 film with a post-apocalyptic last man on Earth plot, which should make your eyes roll at this point, but I made it to the end without falling asleep and it was well worth watching. Hollywood can't make movies like this.
And thanks for the comments on Romulus. I'll give it a go, but will wait for streaming.

Is The Quiet Earth based on a novel? I recently read Earth Abides. Was very good.
Romulus wasn't bad to be fair. It's not great, but it's not bad. The last part is a bit much but overall it's a good effort.
