Dune: I guess every major movie is a comic book movie now?
It didn't stick with scenes that long, but most every one of them basically looked great anyway.

Hmm, I found 2049 to be much more personable than the original, and I didn't feel a connection with anyone in Arrival.
On the other hand, I felt Dune nailed the tone of the book and was as good of an adaptation of the source material as we're ever going to get.
I was previously nowhere near as much of a fan of Villenueve's sci-fi work as his more grounded films (Incendies, Prisoners, Sicario). I think he's proven himself in the sci-fi sphere with Dune.

This annoys me so much. It's a trailer for an exclusive screening from 3 years ago, and they must have become so sick of everyone asking them to release it in the comments that they just shut the comment section down. I've seen other versions before, but am always up for a restoration.

Fan music video edit. I don't think it's from the above version.

I'm slogging my way through Get Back. On one hand, watching geniuses at work never gets old. On the other, the entire presentation and editing of the thing is awful. The first 11 minutes of the film are basically Disney going "our Chinese audience doesn't know who the Beatles are". And then through the rest of the film the video and audio are constantly being edited so that they aren't always really related to each other. And they'll have audio going over video that's in super slo-mo. It's bizarre.

That is exactly what I thought as well, Jason. I stopped watching it for those very reasons, but I'll probably get back (pun not intended) to it, I do want to see more of it. But for now, Summer of Soul will do me just fine. That stuff is just awesome.

Annoying nostalgia warning alert. You have been warned.
I grew up in the 1970s, a very very long time ago. On an average Sunday afternoon I'd be outside in the pitch black, in the Swedish arctic, -24C or colder, digging a snow cave out of the massive snow pile ploughed up on our yard, wearing my snow overalls and boots larger than my head. Then I'd come inside, cold and wet, and go straight into a hot sauna. And then, warm, cosy and clean as a whistle, park my pyjama-clad little self in front of the TV, eating cheese toasties made in a waffle iron. In those days in Sweden, there were only two TV channels, and one of them would show The Muppet Show. My parents deemed this acceptable, so that's what we'd watch. And it was hilarious.
Now, in 2021, my old fat self is parked in Scotland, and I have got Disney+. Lo and behold, they have the original The Muppet Show episodes from the 1970s. So what do I do? I walk in the sideways rain to Asda to buy some toast bread and cheese, make my self a couple of cheese toasties in my new sandwich grill, and watch the exact same episodes of the Swedish Chef. Quite a surreal experience.

And if you are not Swedish, as I suspect most of you are not, please let me assure you that the language he speaks is in no way related to any real actual language. It's just what stupid Americans think Swedish sounds like. But it's still funny. AND offensive.

Phew, The Expanse is back on! But the impatient idiot in me finds it difficult to wait for episodes now, it takes a whole week. I've been spoiled by box sets during lockdown.
But, to my surprise, there is more to The Expanse than I knew. You may already know this, and for all I know it might have already been posted several times in this very thread but I'm too lazy to go through it all, but... tonight I was told that there is bonus content available IF you're watching it on a PC. I was watching it on Now TV, and the only bonus was stills, but if I loaded the same episode on the PC there would be a little 3-5 minute video with additional material. I did not know this. How could I have found it if nobody told me? Maybe it's common knowledge, but I'm old and suck at the internet now. Hope this helps. If not, sorry, old hat.
And if you haven't watched The Expanse yet, I would strongly suggest you do. It's the best sci-fi I've seen in years.

I just caught the first two episodes of the new season. It's such a good show. That said, it's off to a kind of slow start... Or not slow exactly, but kind of off its footing, or coasting on past momentum and dealing with the new character chemistry is has going. I think this season is about wrapping things up, and I'm sure it's working up to some suitably big climax, but I think the show's peak was around S3~4 and now it's about bringing everything home. I'm still interested in seeing how it does that anyway.
Edit: Episode 3 was really good.

Don't Look Up on Netflix is an excellent parody of our times. It's about two astronomers who discover a planet killer comet headed for earth and the reaction of politicians, media, and the internet. You recognize all the characters. It's funny and it's sad but it's unflinching in its exposing the idiocy of our times. One could well imagine this exact scenario playing out with no trouble and that is the saddest thing of all. Could we overcome the idiots in time to save the world? Maybe in times past but now it's far from certain.

It's not quite Dr Strangelove, but I'll take it.
