Snake Eyes - 2.5/5 (2021)For a second there I missed the date and thought you were talking about the (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snake_Eyes_(1998_film)) Brian De Palma movie, and I was utterly confused by your comments on it. :laff:
De Palma's kinda hit or miss, but that one I remember as pretty enjoyable.

I'm kind of holding my breath with Lucifer, though I'm beginning to feel that series is going to go the way of several others and totally lose touch with what made those series so interesting and successful in the first place. Though introducing 'God' as a new in-the-flesh character definitely has a lot of potential.
How is this one? I've thought of watching it and it seems like an interesting premise. Lord knows I've been accused of being the title character often enough.
Also I watched the premier episode of Lost in Space and it wasn't bad. Then again neither was the original premier episode back in the sixties. It was the subsequent ones where the writers wanked out total wankery. Even my seven year old self was saying WTF? Does it at least stay in the same vein as the first episode? As an aside I got the Lost in Space playset one Christmas and the styrofoam ship was a complete loss by the end of the day. Then recently I saw one on Ebay and thought what sort of anal kid keeps it in that condition? He sure as hell didn't have a little brother.
You should watch The Last Kingdom. I'm not kidding. George RR got nothing on Bernard Cornwell. And there is plenty of eye candy for the ladies, not that you would ever look, school marm that you are.
Anyway I'm watching Twin Peaks now as has been recommended and it is plenty strange and interesting in that order. The humor is dead pan and that is what makes it more funny. Two through the eyes and one in each nostril indeed. What an odd plot. I recall when it first came on but this was back in the day when I could not pick up that channel on the aerial. And just to let anyone know who thinks there is a way to tie a cherry stem with your tongue, there isn't. It's an old bar trick. You tie one already and have it under your tongue. You swap the two. There is no other way. I've tried for weeks. I used to think it possible to pin the stem in your teeth and pull with your tongue against the roof of your mouth but it just is not so. Damn near choked a few times too.

Well I'll be damned. I love Lucifer. Never thought I would say those words. I love his car, a 62 Corvette in my favorite color. I love the title song and have for a long time, it's been in my rotation for quite a while now. I love the suave way he has. I love that, though he is evil, he can't seem to resist being good on his holiday. A tad opposite of most of us but I can relate. I love that he has his own rules. I love that there is one female wise to his type that he can't reach. The first episode is great and has me hooked. The only thing I disliked was that they wrecked a '71' Lemans. The Walking Dead did that in their premier. How many of those does Hollywood think we have left?
Sorry Twin Peaks but Lucifer can't wait. I have to give the Devil his due.

My brother could tie a cherry stem with his tongue. It's a real thing. But IIRC it's one of those genetic things, like the ability to wiggle your ears or your scalp or arch your eyebrows independently or roll-up your tongue or touch your nose with your tongue or be double-jointed, things like that, where some people have the right muscles to do it and other people just don't, or more specifically, fine muscle control of your tongue tip.

Well damn. Now I'm going to have to do it. There has to be some trick with getting the end through the loop I haven't figured yet. I have a very prehensile and sensitive tongue so it should be possible for me. Ask him if you think of it what the deal is with getting the end through and how it is tightened enough that it does not pop back out. I can get it into position but the popping back out drives me crazy. Off to buy cherries.

Still wrapping up Twin Peaks. I can understand why it had the rug completely pulled out from it after Laura's killer was found 1/3 of the way through the 2nd season. There was this grand cathartic climax, and then suddenly it's still going?, and 5 episodes later it's still going??, and 5 episodes after that it's still going??? And after that...
In the event that you're not aware, Lynch and Frost were actually never intending to reveal Laura's killer. The network demanded they do it, and promptly. Once that happened, Lynch went AWOL, basically not returning to the show until the very end. That's why season 2 takes a sharp drop in quality after the reveal, and why it picks up again at the very end.
For what it's worth, I actually think s3 (The Return) is the best season of the show all-around. It's an 18hr Lynch movie that stands in sharp contrast to the 2nd season.

Yes, I had that information, but I guess it's good to remind everyone. I just watched Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me (actually the fanmade Blue Rose cut that combines it with the later-released deleted scenes), and like half the cast was missing, Dale had a much diminished role (by request), and Donna was even a different actress, and watching the recent interviews the reason is pretty clearly because they felt abandoned by Lynch in the 2nd season.
I don't particularly blame Lynch. He hates his work being interfered with. Everyone knows that now, but it's funny reflecting on the time TP was being made, he hadn't really revealed his final form yet, so I don't think people understood how he worked like they would later.
On that note, the movie got panned -- perfect example of people mistaking the Lynch they thought they knew from what he turned out to be, as I don't think anybody later would be surprised by how that movie turned out; it could hardly have been otherwise -- And anyway I think it's important it got made because Laura always was the spiritual center of the whole story.
I'm on to S3 now myself. I'll give it a few episodes to get the sense of it. We're not in (only) Twin Peaks and the other place anymore, but it's still handwaving back in that direction. So my first thought is if it's going to spread itself thin. But I guess you can always win if you're making up your own rules.

Saw Annette at the weekend, quite an experience and I would recommend to anyone unless you really don't like musicals. Probably the most original film I've seen this year, there's nothing quite like it. The whole thing is quite absurd, surreal and operatic in scale, and Adam Driver is fantastic as the tortured comedian at the centre of the story. Marion Cottilard is also great but a bit underused. Simon Helberg gives a memorable performance (particularly in a one-take scene where the camera rotates around him as he conducts an orchestra whilst breaking the fourth wall) as the unnamed Accompanist/Conductor. Weird but wonderful cinema, worth seeing on the big screen for the spectacle.
