Glad I did before your spoilers!
Shit, my bad. This is fixed now, sorry guys.
There's a rescreening of Aquaman near me next April, I missed it last time but I'll catch a showing then.

Yeah I liked that too. It didn't have the same clever dialog and character study that True Detective S1 had, but it handled the criminal procedure stuff and plot better, and the characters & their development were still really interesting.
It's based on a BBC miniseries with a similiarly strong cast. I'm curious about that one, but it seems that the HBO remake is so close to the original that it would feel like déjà vu. Perhaps in a few years.

Not to be stoking the flames of a fire that has already died, but...
I've been watching a bit more of Daredevil. I was hoping that I'd be proven wrong, given how much some people praise it, but the opposite happened. My negative view of certain actors have strengthened, not lessened. Last night I found myself fast-forwarding through bits of Matt and Elektra just to not see any more of their annoying crap, and get to the Punisher or D'Onofrio bits I actually enjoy. I find the actor who plays Matt too pretty and too smug, the smugness really gets to me over time, more and more. The character Elektra is just annoying on every single level, probably writing more than the actress. Yes, you're right, I should stop whining and watch something else if it annoys me so much, but here's the thing: there are good bits in the show. Some really good bits. It's just sandwiched by some really bad bits. It's like a 3 AM kebab.
Punisher the series I thoroughly enjoyed, with the occasional minor reservation here and there. This thing could be better, that actor isn't very believable, etc. I can deal with that. That's what most show are like. The vast range of what bits I enjoy and do not enjoy in Daredevil is what bugs me, and which is what I'm whining about. I just wish the bad bits were better, and it could be awesome.

On a related note, I'm working my way through Punisher.
Question for everyone watching: does everyone watching this actually think that what this show portrays is goes through the mind of vets? I find it to be an almost ludicrously cliche'd and shallow portrayal. It's difficult to imagine that this show was written anyone other than some smug asshole who thinks that he actually understands something about returning vets from watching some movies and reading a few New York Times articles about PTSD. The most bizarre part is how all the vet characters keep robotically repeating military cliche phrases and rambling about "Afghanistan".
The show kind of gives off the vibe that the writers think every returning vet is a potential mass shooter.
Probably the best exception is the PMC guy. We've got a lot of guys at my current firm who are actually like that. I was in D.C. for a Veterans event and there were a few guys who looked, dressed, and acted the same way.

To be perfectly frank Tony, no, I don't think Punisher should be taken as a reference for anything realistic.

I figured as much for most people.
That said a lot of the MCU shows do attempt this odd blend of "realistic" social commentary and unrealistic drama and action. I do feel it's entirely possible that's what Hollywood thinks veterans are like, and I do know that some people definitely feel that way about vets because they tend to ask you some weird questions when they find out you've actually been in combat.

The image I have of vets is that they go on forums and get angry about portrayals of vets in movies so their fellow forum-goers will known they're vets and think they're cool.

No I do not. I do not for a moment think it's realistic, and I agree it's shallow and clichéd. I think it glances over PTSD in some super-hero veil where he can not possibly die and yet do atrocious things. That's not why I watch it.
I watch it to vent my own pain. Simple as that. Not realistic, not true in any way, entirely fictional, but to me, quite relatable. Same reason I listen to loud angry shouty music about stuff I've never experienced either.

Lol the bad parts of the punisher are so much worse and more prevalent than the bad bits of daredevil. A very odd take there.
To be fair, though, dds2 is its worst season (s3 is best). Too much defenders setup leading to too many ideas in there and a poor finale, plus the daredevil/punisher contrast is dull.

I can not logically argue with you on that. I can see the clichés. I can only say I enjoy one over the other. Yeah, maybe I picked the worse one, but I'm enjoying it more. Maybe for my own reasons.
