My all-time favorite game is
Space Alert. It's for 4-5 people and you play it in real-time along with an audio recording. You're in a spaceship that's falling apart, and terrible aliens and meteors and viruses and other threats must be dealt with cooperatively with very little time to think about how to deal with them. Charging lasers, firing missiles, raising shields, fixing broken parts of the ship, and all working together at a very hectic pace. It's SO MUCH FUN and I can't recommend it more highly. Watch this short video and if you think you'll like it, you probably will: (

Yes, Space Alert is a FANTASTIC game.

I'm still annoyed that GW stopped support for Epic right after I put the finishing piece in my 2000 point tyranid army.

They stopped just before I managed to grab a Dominatrix. It kinda pissed me off since they're not just important to the Tyranids in Epic, you quite simply can't create a rules legal army without one.

I also recommend Pandemic. It's intense but not frustrating, has lots of learnable strategy, and a full game takes maybe 45 minutes.

Illuminati and Risk just to keep sharp for when it all goes down.
Oops! Just forget I said that.

So I was thinking - I'll list the games we have here, and you guys do the same and maybe we can talk strategy, etc. Plus, I could use a few recommendations since we play a lot when the fam comes to visit here at the hospital.

Star Wars: Rebellion
Ah yes! We played our first game of Rebellion this week and it was great. I mean, you can play as the Emperor and Grand Moff Tarkin and fidget around with Star Destroyers, what's not to like? Based on the reviews I was a bit afraid of the quality of the manuals accompanying the game, but that turned out to be a pleasant surprise.
Some other games I really like include
Through the Ages and
Mage Knight, both designed by Vlaada Chvátil.
Through the Ages is best described as a boardgame version of Civilization, with a heavy focus on building a working economy.
Mage Knight is completely different as it presents a quest for up to four players to conquer cities and battle various monsters using spells, artifacts, etc. on your journey.
Twilight Struggle is another title we play regularly. A game for two players pitting the Sovjet Union against the United States in a boardgame simulation of the Cold War, combining a card game with strategic elements from games like Risk and Star Wars: Rebellion. Lastly, another two player favourite of ours is
Android: Netrunner, a asymmetrical card game. The cyberpunk setting features a hacker (Runner) who needs to break through the firewalls (Ice) and traps of his opponent (a big corporation) in order to reach the private servers and steal valuable agendas in order to win the game. When both players are an equal match, a game of Netrunner can be a very tense and exciting endeavour.

Let's see. I've mostly played the more quick and easy to explain games like Last Night on Earth, Pandemic, and King of Tokyo. I've given up on Arkham Horror entirely and settled for Elder Sign, as it's more easy to explain and get running. Otherwise, I've been trying to get people together for a session of Mansions of Madness for several months, but, honestly, tabletop gaming has started to feel like it's more trouble than it's worth. Especially as most of the people I know or work with are of the non-geek variety.
