What setups do people have and how well is DXIW running on them? Are there any GFX cards that seem to be outperforming others despite similar power? And are there any HD/CPU setups that seem to make loading quicker?

Well the demo works well for me on a 256 Meg RAM 1GHz Athlon Radeon 9600XT. Ridiculously dark in some parts, I wouldn't like to go to a pub (or a Gresel Pit, if they existed in RL) and not be able to see the faces of the people I'm talking to.

I'm running a GeForce FX 5900 (not Ultra) and it runs fine, though l did whack up the gamma.

9800 non-pro. runs fine in 6x sampling but laggy in 1x. very strange. anything to do with the fact ive got d3d settings forced to 4x/4x?

The top of the line GeForce and Radeon cards seem to be performing more or less equally well, but the Radeon cards are probably a better choice because they outperform the GeForce cards on most other games. At $300, the Radeon 9800 Pro is probably still the sensible buy among high end cards. After the patch, I did find the game to be playable at 1024x768 on a Radeon 8500 with dynamic shadows off and everything optimized for performance. But it was only barely playable on a GeForce 5700 and Radeon 9000 with the same settings, even at 800x600.
In my machine, I have a striped set of two fairly new 7200 rpm Samsung drives. That seems to help with load times somewhat. But loading also seems to be fairly CPU intensive, so having a fast processor probably helps even more than a fast disk. I only have an Athlon XP 1600 so it's hard to say. You lose a couple of seconds every time on the CD check as well.

I played and finished the game on a GeForce 5600 Ultra (256vram) and 256 system ram on a 1.7 ghz system.
About loading times: loading takes roughly 6-8 seconds, however the cd check takes much longer, there are two phases of each loading scene.
Also after applying the patch I noticed that the game kept going back to the 640*480 resolution and I had to change it again and again.
To the post above this one: I played the game on 1024*768 with everything on max except shadows on a Geforce 5600 Ultra which is not as good as a 5700, so I don't know why the 5700 couldn't perform for you when you tested it.

I dunno. Before the patch came out the frame rate got really choppy in most places if you set the resolution above 640x480 on the 5700. After the patch, I only briefly tried the 5700 again, but with shadows off it was smooth in some areas at 1024x768 but in other places it still got kinda choppy. The Radeon 8500 was more or less smooth everywhere at 1024x768 with shadows off, so I stuck with that. Not to mention it seems to be equal or better than the 5700 in most of my other games too.
One explanation might be that my MB only supports AGP 4x, not 8x. Perhaps that makes a difference with the 5700.
