Eh, ask any stoner if they're addicted and they'll say no.
I know a lot of stoners, some will happily confess they are addicted, some won't. I can somewhat understand those who say they arent addicted, compared to tobacco or alcohol or heavier drugs the withdrawal symptoms aren't that bad (yes i used to smoke as well so i have experience), so its really not that hard to stop.
I'm "addicted" to coffee, games, sex, (some) tv-series - in the sense that i like it very much, but it doesnt mean it would be impossible for me to stop any of it. True addiction is when someone can't stop even though he really wants(needs) to, when the person or his friends/family is getting hurt / affected by the behaviour of the addict. I wouldn't say most stoners are that kind of addict, but there are exceptions, just as there are exceptions with gamers (i know a few WoW addicts, one who crashed his relationship and one that got kicked from work.)

i smoke often (only the green), drink no coffee, no alcohol and no cigarettes.
when I go on holidays or leave the country I never take anything with me or try to get it at my destination. I never had any problems to stop it for whatever amount of time but it also was never out of the question to start again after a few months/year or pause.
When I stopped drinking or smoking I was totally changed for weeks and months and my body, psyche and reactions/mood were influenced by it.
but that's just me. I've seen other ppl go totally crazy when smoking to often, having little fits of paranoia. so like alcohol makes some ppl agressive, weed can make them "funny in the head" as well.
It's much more important how you cope with "your" drugs and to what extent you let them have control of you.
I would say a good chocolate cake owns me more than a joint.

If I choose to join Stalkers now, will I lose the membership after I leave Cordon just as I lost my CS status after I left Swamps? If not, will I be able to join f.e. Bandits in Garbage?

Nope, you'll stay with a the Stalkers right to the end of the game. I don't know if you can switch factions, though. Never tried it.

You can switch back and forth all you want. Started out as a stalker, went to freedom, and switched back to the stalkers again.
Can't really figure out how to get back on duty's good side again though.

That's good.
However you could join Freedom because they stayed neutral (yellow) after you joined Stalkers.
The big question is if there is some exceptive choices, or any choice doesn't eliminate possible future membership in any other faction? F.e. how do I join Bandits if I'm Stalker and all bandits are hostile (red)? Is it possible to join Duty after joining Bandits? (Dutiers become red too after joining Bandits)

I guess I got it.
You may join any of currently hostile (red dots) faction via faction neutral to it.
Neutral factions are:
Stalkers -> Duty, Freedom;
Bandits -> Freedom;
Duty -> Stalkers;
Freedom -> Stalkers, Bandits;
So, if f.e. you want to become a Stalker and Stalkers are hostile, first you have to join either Duty or Freedom to make them neutral (yellow) and then you will be able to join. That's of course if previously you didn't kill the target faction's leader fighting for other faction.
PS: There is a mini-game at Bandits base: Kill the crows :)

**Minor spoilers**
I'm a bit miffed that you can't actually wipe out any of the factions. I joined the Stalkers and after taking all the control points I was able to assault the main Bandit base. I killed all of them, including Yoga, yet ten minutes later I got a message saying they were back again. That happend three times. I wouldn't have minded so much, but the reward for 'wiping them out' was a measly 600 roubles. :erg:

I think the impossibility to wipe out a faction entirely is intentional. Vanquishing the enemy faction in terms of CS means its major weakening, its members still will respawn, but only in one or two points and they won't be able to take over a map anymore. ... I guess. So your reward is that you will encounter them more rarely.

Well, not really. Every time I went back there were a good 20-30 bandits knocking about the depot. Getting to Agroprom without being shot at was almost impossible.
I see what you're saying, and it would certainly be more acceptable for them to return in a weakened state, but that doesn't seem to be happening.
I'd prefer it if killing the faction leader meant that respawing was impossible. Then you could either mop up the remainder yourself, or let the mutants/other factions polish them off. As it stands, getting the 'THIS IS A DAY TO BE REMEMBERED' speech every time you (seemingly) wipe out a faction seems rather silly if they're just going to pop back later.
