Well all in all it seemed to go pretty well. Barring a bit of a scary problem placing the heatsink on the CPU (including sticking a big old thumb into the thermal grease) and an unseated sound card that was easily fixed, the assembly itself went pretty well.
Sadly I did run into the problem a lot of people seem to be having with the Asus board whereby it keeps thinking your memory configuration is bad on cold boot, requiring you to open the case up and press a switch on the board every time you do cold boot. Taking out the CMOS battery and fiddling with a jumper seems to have solved that difficulty - but now the CMOS battery is loose and so doesn't actually keep my BIOS settings from boot to boot. :erg: Is there any practical reason why I shouldn't just use some Sellotape to hold it down? There are no contacts on the top of the holder or anything.
David, the DS211j was simplicity itself to set up, though I haven't begun actually using it yet.

Aw jesus. That's got to be frustrating. Sorry, Matt. The board's still under warranty, and Intel intends to issue replacements, so that should probably happen sooner rather than later with Asus. No other problems so far though, I hope.

Well, I forgot to mention that Windows 7 took an absolute shit-fit when I rebooted it, meaning I had to reinstall the OS and all of my programs. On the other hand, it meant that I am now au fait with the mechanics of imaging my boot drive, as I'm not going through that again!

Hey, guess you gotta have a balanced diet of issues after all. Can't have the hardware fucking up and not the software, now can we? :erg:
