Siting home at the moment unemployed. July of last year I quit my job as a Lineman at a local electric company with 22 years+ seniority with them. Moved my union card from the utility sector to outside construction branch. I should be back to work in a few weeks on some high voltage [138,00-345,000] transmission work in New York state.
Been debating putting this A+ Computer Certificate plus other computer skills I have acquired to use in gain full employment. Have liked doing it as a hobby, not so sure I'd want to do it as full time employment.
Then there is the issue once your get line work in your blood, it's hard to get it out. Yep, nothing like working up in Buffalo, NY in the winter. Five degrees Fahrenheit outside with a 20-25 mile an hour wind coming in off the lake while one works high voltage 3 phase distributor in gloves and sleeves. Not the best of a working environment. There's a certain calling related to doing Line work that is difficult to put into words.

I manage a brain repository that shares HIV+ brains with researchers all over the world. We also do our own HIV neuropathology research in the lab.

Why is it, when I announce myself as a Banker to people they cringe and look away. As if the whole bloody recession we're in is my personal fault??
I'm thinking of calling myself a Professional Duck Catcher to people now - at least it doesnt have this bloody stereotype around its neck.

Well, no one forced you to become a banker, so ostensibly it was your choice to be involved in an industry that has done some pretty unpopular things. And for some people, whether or not you knew about all or some of those things, you still chose to join this industry that makes money out of other people's money, which they may find objectionable.
Of course, this rather undervalues you as a human being, and a job is only part of who you are.
Alternatively, you might wish to stop walking up to strangers and "announcing" yourself "as a Banker".

All I knows is were I a banker I'd be making "too big to fail" jokes to anyone within earshot.
